Technical Project Lead - Agile Defence Software

Job summary

DXC Technology in Farnborough, Hampshire seeks a Project Technical Authority to provide technical leadership across a portfolio of software change projects. You’ll guide engineering teams from concept to customer acceptance, aligning with product strategy while working closely with PMs, Product Design Authorities and SMEs.

In this role you’ll lead technical planning, drive architectural direction, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams in an Agile environment.

Qualifications

• Experience leading technical activities across the software development lifecycle.
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments using Scrum and/or Kanban.
• Strong requirements gathering and analysis skills, including translating customer needs into detailed system and software requirements.
• The ability to estimate work, identify risks and manage technical dependencies.
• Experience in both Functional and Object‑Oriented design.
• Strong review and assurance skills, including design reviews, code reviews and technical walkthroughs.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• A collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
• Eligibility to meet UK Government and contractual personnel security requirements applicable to the role.

Responsibilities

• Define and guide technical solutions from requirements through to delivery and customer acceptance.
• Break down complex technical scope into manageable work packages for Agile delivery teams.
• Create and maintain project engineering plans and technical backlogs.
• Work closely with Software, Systems and Operational SMEs to define requirements, acceptance criteria and delivery priorities.
• Ensure solutions align with product strategy and architectural direction.
• Support design reviews, technical decision‑making and risk management activities.
• Provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
• Monitor project progress and communicate issues, risks and dependencies clearly to stakeholders.
• Support customer engagement activities alongside project and programme teams.
• Ensure appropriate verification and validation activities are completed to support qualification and acceptance.
