Job description

We are a specialist agency providing design & development of medical devices. We work alongside leading clinicians, pharma and med-tech providers to develop ground breaking new healthcare solutions. With major projects ongoing, and demand increasing, we are looking for new people to join the team.

Principal aspects of the role:
  • Take the lead in devising novel technical solutions to complex design challenges, and perform a lead role in delivering narrative to the client as solutions evolve.
  • Drive solutions through to verification, validation and production transfer.
  • Work effectively with Fearsome colleagues, provide leadership and mentorship to less experienced members of the team.
  • Collaborate effectively with the client, clinicians and other external stakeholders to ensure solutions align with their needs.
  • Take ownership of elements of design control, usability and risk engineering and produce documentation according to the relevant EU, US and UK regulatory requirements.
  • Define project scope, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation
  • Drive design reviews, technical decision-making, and problem-solving
  • Support business development through proposals and client presentations
An ideal candidate might possess:
  • Ability to architect and break down complex device systems into robust, deliverable solutions
  • Experience identifying and mitigating technical risks early in development
  • Strong judgement in balancing performance, cost, manufacturability, and timelines
  • Track record of solving complex engineering challenges in a structured, pragmatic way
  • Proven experience leading and guiding multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Ability to set technical direction and make sound engineering decisions
  • Confident reviewing, challenging, and improving the work of others
  • Willingness to remain hands-on when needed to drive progress
Required Skills:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Product Design, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in medical device development or a similar regulated industry
  • Proven experience managing complex, multidisciplinary projects
  • Strong understanding of product development processes and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to balance technical depth with strategic oversight
  • Experience working in a consultancy or agency environment is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of human factors and usability engineering
  • Experience with risk management (ISO 14971)
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturing (DFM) and prototyping processes
  • Agile or hybrid project management experience
