Job description

Through Spire Space Services, customers build and operate their own satellite constellations on top of Spire’s proven satellite, ground, and web infrastructure. As Technical Program Manager for Software, you will be instrumental in driving Spire’s next-Gen Operations & Technology software stack for both our customer projects as well as our own constellation.

We are looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager with experience in managing software programs across multiple teams in a high pace start-up environment. You will be responsible for directly driving large-scale programs that shape Spire’s SW / Operations roadmap.

You will be responsible for all aspects of program management from planning through execution and monitoring, to program completion, including a focus on ensuring teams stay unblocked and work effectively together, timely delivery, budgets, resource allocation and management, and scope management. You will directly collaborate with several engineering teams and other technical experts who drive innovation on all Software fronts.

The successful candidate will work with a variety of stakeholders to ensure deliverables and milestones are met within scope and budget and manage dependencies between a large number of teams and projects. This role will work across several departments to ensure aspects of various programs are compatible with resources to fulfil program requirements.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work closely with technical leaders to help them deliver on time and on quality.
  • Develop knowledge of our software systems spanning cloud, satellites, payloads, and operations systems.
  • Support the definition and refinement of roadmaps, help develop and present business cases, cost-benefit analysis and drive the decision-making to control risks and maximize benefits to the business.
  • Day to day program management from scope definition, activities & resource planning, budgeting and reporting.
  • Perform proactive risk management, actively working to identify, quantify, mitigate, and retire program risks and providing transparency.
  • Provide programmatic and technical insights and support to several stakeholders including direct peers: Director Customer Programs and Director Constellation Delivery – reporting to Head of PMO.
  • Negotiating and influencing skills, establishing and maintaining relationships that promote a successful program outcome.

Key Skills:

Curiosity about technical systems and ability to learn fast at a conceptual level enough about how they work to help guide the program effectively.

Experience in managing complex software programs ideally in defence, aerospace or similar industry. Successful track record driving multiple programs simultaneously.

Sound business judgement, commercial acumen and ability to solve complex problems.

Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to apply critical and strategic thinking to shape solutions out of complexity.

Flexible and calm in the face of ambiguity and issues.

Exceptional communication and leadership skills with the ability to win the confidence of highly skilled engineers and executive staff alike.

Adept at building consensus across cross-functional teams.

Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) / PRINCE II certification or equivalent.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft products.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or applicable field of study or equivalent work experience.

Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in the office.

Access to US export-controlled software and/or technology may be required for this role. If needed, Spire will arrange the necessary licenses.
