The role of the Program Management Team is to shape and accelerate the delivery of GDM’s highest priorities. We do this through translating strategy into program plans, implementing efficient ways of working, and developing successful teams to drive end to end delivery of our GDM objectives. We provide focus for our teams through co-developing goals and priorities, continually anchoring teams back to these. The role

We’re seeking a Technical Program Manager who is excited to be at the center of building the

Embodied AI to power a ‘new wave’ of robots that act with human-level intelligence. This is an opportunity to work hand in hand with researchers in our Robotics team to bring their research breakthroughs to the real world.

Key responsibilities
  • Independently scope, plan, and deliver technical programs for robotics.
  • Partner closely with research and team leads to to organise and optimise research ideas into clear goals and objectives.
  • Partner with engineering, research and product teams to successfully deliver complex robotics initiatives.
  • Apply technical knowledge to identify and execute pragmatic solutions, with a specific understanding of the challenges of working in the robotics industry.
  • Apply expertise in program management methodologies, tools, and relevant industry knowledge of robotics to drive program success.
  • Proactively identify and manage risks, dependencies, and changing circumstances, implementing timely solutions.
  • Track progress, maintain up to date information and relevant technical documentation, anticipate and propose solutions to issues and risks
  • Ensure timely information flow across all collaborators by maintaining research schedules, streamlining workflows, leading project status meetings, and providing frequent stakeholder updates.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of the end to end research workflow from ideation through to execution to be able to proactively opportunities to improve ways of working, tools or processes.
  • Stay up to date with robotics research progress and breakthroughs taking place outside of GDM and contextualise how they relate to our own work.
About you

In order to set you up for success as a Technical Program Manager at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experienced at leading complex technical programs and have 6+ years of experience as a technical program manager, with a strong track record of successful program delivery.
  • Proven ability to navigate fast-paced, ever-evolving environments, demonstrating resourcefulness and creativity in solving complex challenges and implementing scalable solutions.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to distill sophisticated technical ideas to broad audiences including leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes, workflows, and governance models to enhance efficiency within research teams.
  • Experience working with senior leadership, confidently communicating challenges and risks while proposing new solutions.

In addition, the following would be an advantage:

  • Prior experience collaborating with teams in a research environment, ideally in a relevant domain such as robotics, autonomous vehicles, automation, generative AI, etc.
  • Prior experience working with hardware (e.g., robots, autonomous vehicles, etc.) in a research environment.
  • Prior experience managing the preparation and delivery of demos in collaboration with research, marketing, and comms teams.
  • Prior experience working in the field
  • Strong technical background with an understanding of AI and robotics.
  • Prior experience working with globally distributed teams.
