Job summary

Sanderson Recruitment Plc is seeking an experienced Technical Platform Manager to join an organisation operating a modern technology facility in Bristol. You will own a complex technical environment covering HPC, compute clusters, networking, storage and Back End services, ensuring platform stability, resilience and continuous improvement.

The role combines technical leadership with hands-on infrastructure management, leading a team of three engineers while collaborating with senior stakeholders

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in infrastructure management, technical operations or platform engineering.
• Experience with compute clusters, HPC, GPU infrastructure or complex compute and storage environments.
• Strong Linux, networking, back-end services and modern infrastructure technologies knowledge.
• Proven leadership of technical teams and infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of ITIL, systems operations, incident management and change control.
• Experience improving resilience, performance and efficiency.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and budget management skills.
• Relevant technical qualifications or equivalent experience, plus leadership training.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of HPC infrastructure, compute clusters, storage environments and Back End services.
• Identify technical risks, improve platform resilience and address single points of failure.
• Lead and develop a technical team of three, providing technical direction and operational oversight.
• Manage infrastructure upgrades, maintenance, incident response and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Establish operational standards, documentation and ITIL-aligned processes.
• Develop technical roadmaps, introducing automation, monitoring and DevOps practices where appropriate.
• Manage infrastructure and training budgets, ensuring effective resource allocation.
• Collaborate with senior stakeholders, technical teams and external suppliers to deliver platform improvements.

Technical Platform Manager - HPC & Digital InfrastructureLocation: Bristol/Hybrid (3 days onsite)
Salary: Up to £65,000
Hours: 35 hours per week

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Technical Platform Manager to join an organisation operating a modern, purpose-built technology facility in Bristol.

You will take ownership of a complex technical environment covering high-performance computing (HPC), compute clusters, networking, storage and Back End services, ensuring platform stability, resilience and continuous improvement.

This role combines technical leadership with hands on infrastructure management, leading a team of three engineers while working closely with technical specialists and senior stakeholders.

We are particularly interested in candidates from commercial, engineering, technology or research environments who can bring a proactive approach to managing and improving complex infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of HPC infrastructure, compute clusters, storage environments and Back End services.

Skills & Experience

• Experience working with compute clusters, HPC, GPU infrastructure or complex compute and storage environments.

• Good understanding of Linux, networking, Back End services and modern infrastructure technologies.

• Proven experience leading technical teams and managing infrastructure projects.

• Knowledge of ITIL, systems operations, incident management and change control.

• Experience improving infrastructure resilience, performance and operational efficiency.

• Strong stakeholder management, communication and budget management skills.

• Relevant technical qualifications or equivalent professional experience, alongside leadership or management training.

Desirable: Experience with HPC environments, GPU computing, AI infrastructure, automation, CI/CD or DevOps practices.
