Job summary

Westray Recruitment Consultants Ltd is seeking a Technical Operator in Hexham to safely and efficiently run an automated robotic manufacturing cell. You will work closely with the Assembly Team Leader and production team to meet schedules and maintain quality standards.

The role requires experience in manufacturing and a mechanical mindset, with training provided to develop technical skills in an increasingly automated environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate automated robotic manufacturing cells and equipment.
• Load raw materials and unload finished products according to production schedules.
• Start up, shut down and reset machinery per established procedures.
• Monitor machine performance, cycle times and production output.
• Carry out routine quality inspections to ensure products meet standards.
• Record production information and complete relevant documentation accurately.
• Respond to machine alarms and address minor faults where appropriate.
• Identify issues with machinery or processes and escalate complex faults.
• Ensure production targets and quality standards are met.
• Follow health, safety and environmental procedures.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure efficient production runs.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify efficiency gains.

The Business

Our client is an established manufacturing business operating within a modern clean room production environment, with a strong focus on automation, quality, efficiency and continuous improvement.

Due to continued growth and investment in their manufacturing operations, they are looking to appoint a Technical Operator to join their production team and support the safe and efficient running of an automated robotic manufacturing cell.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with manufacturing experience who has a mechanical mindset and an interest in developing their technical skills within an increasingly automated environment.

The Role

As a Technical Operator, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient and consistent operation of a robotic manufacturing cell and associated equipment.

Working closely with the Assembly Team Leader and wider production team, your responsibilities will include:

• Operating and monitoring automated robotic manufacturing cells and associated equipment
• Loading raw materials and unloading finished products in line with production schedules
• Starting up, shutting down and resetting machinery in accordance with established procedures
• Monitoring machine performance, cycle times and production output
• Carrying out routine quality inspections to ensure products meet required standards
• Recording production information and completing relevant documentation accurately
• Responding to machine alarms and dealing with minor equipment faults where appropriate
• Identifying issues with machinery or production processes and escalating more complex faults
• Ensuring production targets and quality standards are consistently achieved
• Following all company health, safety and environmental procedures
• Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment
• Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure production runs efficiently
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and identifying opportunities to improve processes and efficiency

The Person

The successful candidate will ideally have experience within a manufacturing, production or automated environment and be confident working around machinery and production equipment.

We are looking for someone who is:

• Experienced within a manufacturing or production environment
• Mechanically minded with a genuine interest in machinery and automated processes
• Technically curious and willing to learn new equipment and processes
• Confident following detailed procedures and production instructions
• Able to identify and respond to minor machinery faults and alarms
• A strong problem solver with a practical, hands-on approach
• Highly attentive to detail, particularly when carrying out quality checks
• Comfortable using basic computer systems to record production data
• A good communicator who works well as part of a team
• Reliable, conscientious and committed to achieving production targets
• Safety-conscious with a good understanding of the importance of quality and workplace safety
