Technical Officer (Commercial)

Job Introduction

Are you a team player, who is self-motivated and passionate about delivering high quality customer service, along with a good eye for detail and commitment to delivering continuous improvement in processes and practices?

We are looking for someone like you to join our team! If we are a good fit for you, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of regulatory and advisory activities covering food safety, occupational health and safety, infectious disease control, skin piercing registration, private water supply and animal licensing.

What will you be doing?

  1. Working towards a safe and healthy environment for the residents, workers and visitors of East Herts, through the undertaking of work detailed in the attached Job Description.
  2. Carrying out a range of proactive inspections and investigations, responding to and actioning requests for service in accordance with council procedures.
  3. Initiating enforcement action where necessary, in consultation with the appropriate senior manager.
  4. Carrying out investigations in relation to food safety, occupational health and safety, accidents, food poisoning outbreaks and infectious disease reports and taking action as necessary.

About you

As an ideal candidate, you will have:

  1. a suitable Food Law Code of Practice recognised qualification, at Level 5 or above, including but not limited to the Higher Certificate in Food Control, Higher Certificate in Premises Inspection, or a degree in an Environmental Health related subject,
  2. a registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB), as a Registered EHP (REnvH) or as a Registered Food Practitioner,
  3. detailed knowledge of legislation, codes of practice and associated guidance,
  4. the ability to work independently and as part of a team,
  5. professional skills and knowledge to identify, investigate, analyse, evaluate, and advise on issues and solutions relating to the ‘commercial’ areas of environmental health,
  6. competency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and
  7. excellent communication skills.
