Technical & Training Manager - Audit

London | Top 20 Accounting Firm | Hybrid Working

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technical & Training Manager to join the London practice of a highly regarded Top 20 accounting firm, working closely with the Audit leadership team and playing a key role in driving technical excellence, audit quality and professional development across the firm.

This is a broad and influential role, ideally suited to an experienced audit professional who enjoys being at the forefront of technical matters, supporting engagement teams and turning regulatory developments into practical guidance and training.

The Role

As Technical & Training Manager, you will provide high-quality technical support across the firm's London audit practice, helping ensure consistency, efficiency and excellence across audit and accounts preparation assignments.

The client base is predominantly SME-focused but highly diverse, spanning Financial Services, charities and not-for-profit organisations, academies, solicitors, property and construction, luxury retail, manufacturing and hospitality, as well as a significant portfolio of inward-investment businesses requiring group auditor liaison.

You will work closely with the Technical Partner, Head of Audit and audit teams, providing practical advice on complex matters while helping shape the firm's technical guidance, training and quality initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide timely and practical technical advice on financial reporting, narrative reporting, ISA audit methodology, risk management, ethics and independence.

• Respond to technical queries from audit teams and other areas of the firm, identifying recurring themes and opportunities for additional guidance, templates and training.

• Develop and deliver initiatives designed to improve audit quality, efficiency and consistency across the practice.

• Work with the Technical Partner to coordinate the firm's external cold file review process, analysing thematic findings and root causes and developing appropriate remediation, training and coaching plans.

• Monitor emerging developments across financial reporting, narrative reporting, audit, the UK Ethical Standard and US independence requirements, ensuring the firm remains appropriately up to date.

• Support the implementation of new regulatory requirements and the ongoing development of internal policies, processes and procedures.

• Assist with the technical integration of newly acquired London-based offices, ensuring consistency of approach and effective knowledge sharing.

• Support the Technical Partner and Head of Audit in developing new assurance and advisory service lines.

• Coordinate the firm's CPD training programme, contributing to the strategy and agenda, overseeing logistics and reviewing outcomes.

• Provide ad-hoc technical support to the firm's Company Secretarial team.

About You

We are looking for an experienced audit professional with strong technical accounting and auditing knowledge, combined with the ability to communicate complex matters clearly and practically.

You are likely to have:

• Significant experience gained within an audit environment, ideally with exposure to a broad range of SME and/or complex group clients.

• Strong knowledge of UK GAAP, IFRS and International Standards on Auditing (ISA).

• A good understanding of audit quality, ethics, independence and regulatory requirements.

• Experience providing technical guidance or support to audit teams.

• A genuine interest in training, coaching and professional development.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify themes and translate technical requirements into practical solutions.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• A proactive, collaborative approach and the confidence to work with senior stakeholders.

ACA or equivalent qualification is expected.
