Job description

Our Technical Manager – Product Knowledge (Fruit) role leads on providing expertise, training and excellent communication to ensure quality products are supplied into our manufacturing site. They’ll work closely with suppliers and growers to ensure they’re committed to and adhering to the relevant food safety, legality, quality and ethical standards, working to protect and promote our reputation and drive end to end quality standards.

Working closely with and reporting to the Senior Technical Manager, they will also be responsible for:

  • Building and sharing product knowledge and being the vital link between the trading and technical site teams
  • Leading on auditing, approving and liaising with suppliers/growers, and providing the site team with detailed insight on raw material quality, highlighting potential issues and leading the interpretation of specifications
  • Leading and managing the due diligence team
  • Leading product development on site and providing product information against competitors
  • Monitoring finished goods quality, including shelf life assessment, and making stock holding decisions

Please note there is an element of travel with this role as you will need to meet with suppliers and growers, and visit other manufacturing sites.

About you

As well as strong leadership skills, you will also have:

  • Extensive product knowledge across multiple fruit categories
  • Commercial market knowledge of risk seasons and challenges
  • Experience as a decision maker for raw material selection and product quality across multiple categories
  • Proven ability to audit suppliers
  • Experience of creating a strategic plan to maintain service across growing seasons
  • The ability to use data to drive intelligent decision making across multiple fruit categories to strategically influence future seasons
  • A reputation for realising potential through coaching and development at all levels
  • Relevant experience or degree in Science, Food Technology, Chemistry or Microbiology
  • A strong working knowledge of HACCP and food safety matters
  • Extensive experience in manufacturing and/or retail industries
