Job summary

Ainscough Crane Hire Limited is seeking a Technical Manager in Lancaster. You will be the technical link between customers and the depot, advising on lifting solutions that are safe, practical and commercially viable from enquiry through completion.

The role requires proven crane and contract lift expertise, with strong customer-facing and industry knowledge. You will lead site visits, manage surveys, and ensure compliance with safety standards and company procedures.

Responsibilities

• Carry out customer site visits and develop opportunities into confirmed hire contracts.
• Work with customers to establish effective lifting solutions.
• Produce site surveys, method statements, drawings and risk assessments.
• Ensure lifting solutions meet standards, regulations, and procedures.
• Maintain high Health & Safety standards and deliver within timescales.
• Provide technical support to the depot team and build customer relationships.

Technical Manager – Lancaster

Location: Lancaster

Ainscough Crane Hire are looking for an experienced Technical Manager to join our Lancaster depot.

This is a key role for someone who understands the technical side of lifting operations and can combine strong industry knowledge with excellent customer and commercial awareness. You’ll be responsible for turning site visits and technical expertise into safe, practical and commercially viable lifting solutions – from initial enquiry through to completion.

The Role

As Technical Manager, you’ll be the technical link between our customers and the depot, providing expert advice and developing lifting solutions that are safe, practical and commercially effective.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out customer site visits and developing opportunities into confirmed hire contracts
• Working closely with customers at all levels to establish the most effective lifting solution
• Producing high-quality site surveys, method statements, technical drawings and risk assessments
• Ensuring all lifting solutions meet the required industry standards, regulations and company procedures
• Maintaining the highest standards of Health & Safety, regardless of commercial pressures
• Taking ownership of work from initial enquiry through to completion
• Providing technical expertise and support to the depot team
• Building strong customer relationships and representing Ainscough professionally at every opportunity
• Ensuring work is prioritised and delivered within agreed timescales
• Keeping fully up to date with the products and services offered by Ainscough
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, service delivery and the effectiveness of the role
• Supporting the wider depot team with general operational requirements when required

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone with proven technical experience within the crane and contract lift sector, alongside the ability to communicate confidently with customers, colleagues and other stakeholders.

Essential:

• Previous experience working as an Appointed Person
• CPCS A61 Appointed Person Blue Card
• Experience within cranes and contract lift
• Full UK driving licence
• Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements
• Good geographical knowledge of the local area
• Good transport and logistical knowledge
• Minimum A*-C GCSE in Maths and English
• Proven ability to work to clearly defined plans and deliver against objectives

Desirable:

• CPCS A62 Crane Supervisor Blue Card
• CPCS A40 Slinger/Signaller Blue Card

Skills & Experience

You’ll need to be confident working with both people and technical information, with the ability to:

• Use Microsoft Office packages and AutoCAD confidently
• Influence and negotiate effectively with customers and stakeholders
• Manage challenging situations and achieve appropriate outcomes
• Organise and prioritise your workload effectively
• Simplify complex technical information and communicate it clearly
• Communicate confidently and professionally, both verbally and in writing
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and better ways of working
