Site Technical Manager

Location: Somerset

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Site Technical Manager to take overall responsibility for food safety, quality, legality and technical compliance across a busy food manufacturing site in Somerset.

This is a key leadership position, responsible for managing and developing the site Technical function, driving a strong food safety culture and ensuring the site consistently meets customer, regulatory and certification requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all food safety, quality, legality and compliance systems across the site.
• Manage, coach and develop the Site Technical Team, ensuring high standards of performance and accountability.
• Promote and embed a positive food safety and quality culture throughout the wider site.
• Act as the site lead for HACCP, VACCP and TACCP.
• Maintain and continually improve compliance with BRCGS, customer standards, codes of practice and relevant legislation, including export requirements.
• Work closely with the Site Management Team to ensure technical compliance is incorporated into new projects, processes and initiatives.
• Take the lead on technical matters during customer audits, customer visits and regulatory inspections.
• Establish, monitor and review technical KPIs, using these to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Oversee the supplier and traded goods approval process, monitoring supplier performance and taking action where required.
• Identify and implement new approaches to improve site technical performance and standards.
• Manage the creation, review and control of product specifications.
• Collaborate with the wider technical function and support technical projects across the wider business as required.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• A strong track record within food technical management, ideally gained within a manufacturing environment.
• Proven experience of leading, managing and developing technical teams.
• Strong experience in customer, certification and regulatory audit leadership.
• A comprehensive understanding of food safety systems, quality standards and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
• The ability to work collaboratively with operational and senior management teams while also providing strong technical leadership.

Desirable Experience

• A degree or relevant qualification in Food Science or a related discipline.
• Experience managing export and multi-market regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and their application within food manufacturing.
