Job summary

Yolk Recruitment is partnering with a well-established business to appoint a Laboratory Manager in Tewkesbury. You will lead quality, technical administration and laboratory operations across the site.

We are seeking a candidate with BRCGS, HACCP and food manufacturing experience who can develop people, raise standards and drive collaboration across the department while championing food safety and audit readiness.

Qualifications

• Technical or Quality management experience within food manufacturing or FMCG.
• Experience in a chilled or similarly regulated food production environment.
• Working knowledge of BRCGS standards and involvement in preparing for and managing audits.
• Experience leading and developing teams, including managers or supervisors.
• Strong problem-solving, root-cause investigation and continuous-improvement experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead on food safety, quality assurance, technical compliance and legal due diligence across the site.
• Maintain and improve the company's food safety and quality management systems, including the HACCP plan.
• Prepare for and host BRCGS, customer, accreditation and other third-party audits.
• Lead and develop the Technical and Laboratory teams, including managers, supervisors, technicians and support staff.
• Collaborate with Production, Warehouse and other departments to improve standards and audit readiness.
• Investigate complaints and non-conformances, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Support NPD activity, including supplier approval and the approval of new products and processes.
• Oversee laboratory operations and continue to improve quality control, hygiene and food safety culture.

You will lead a broad function covering quality, technical administration and laboratory operations. They are looking for someone with BRCGS, HACCP and food manufacturing experience and the business is equally focused on finding an approachable leader who can develop people, raise standards and build greater collaboration across the department.

This is what you'll be doing:

• Taking the lead on food safety, quality assurance, technical compliance and legal due diligence across the site.
• Maintaining and improving the company's food safety and quality management systems, including the HACCP plan.
• Preparing for and hosting BRCGS, customer, accreditation and other relevant third-party audits.
• Leading and developing the Technical and Laboratory teams, including managers, supervisors, technicians and support staff.
• Working closely with Production, Warehouse and other departments to improve standards, behaviours and audit readiness.
• Investigating complaints and non-conformances, identifying root causes and putting effective corrective actions in place.
• Supporting NPD activity, including supplier approval and the approval of new products and processes.
• Overseeing laboratory operations and continuing to improve quality control, hygiene and food safety culture across the business.

The experience you'll need in this role:

• Technical or Quality management experience within food manufacturing or FMCG.
• Previous experience working within a chilled or similarly regulated food production environment.
• Working knowledge of BRCGS standards and involvement in preparing for and managing audits.
• HND or equivalent qualification.
• Food Safety Level 3 and HACCP Level 3 qualifications.
• Internal and external auditing experience, alongside strong knowledge of food safety and quality management systems.
• Proven experience leading and developing teams, including managers or supervisors.
• The confidence to challenge poor processes or behaviours constructively while maintaining positive working relationships.
• Strong problem-solving, root-cause investigation and continuous-improvement experience.
• Dairy, short shelf-life, laboratory management, Halal audit or NPD experience would be particularly useful, although it is not essential.
