Position

We are seeking a Technical Manager to support the delivery of VSL's Ground Engineering Works at Sizewell C. Reporting to the Senior Technical Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the technical operations for one or more projects, ensuring that all design activities adhere to industry best practices, relevant standards, and VSL's ISO-accredited design procedures. This role is central to delivering innovative, cost-effective solutions and positioning VSL as a leader in the technical engineering space.

Main Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Delivery

  • Manage technical aspects of projects from tender through execution, ensuring optimal engineering solutions are delivered.
  • Oversee design activities in line with ISO procedures, Eurocodes, and industry standards.
  • Provide technical support to project teams to achieve programme, cost, quality, and safety objectives.

Collaboration & Strategy

  • Work closely with UK and international teams to promote VSL's technical capabilities and support strategic business decisions.
  • Lead technical contributions during tenders, delivering value-engineered and buildable solutions.

Team Mobilisation & Management

  • Coordinate and guide a team of technical engineers and draftspersons in the UK.
  • Collaborate with VSL International's Technical Centres and external partners to develop innovative solutions.

Technical Marketing & Communication

  • Support marketing initiatives by producing technical content, case studies, and articles that showcase VSL's expertise.
  • Act as an ambassador for VSL's technical excellence in client and industry interactions.
Profile Sought

Education

  • Degree in Geotechnical, Civil, or Structural Engineering (or related discipline).
  • Chartered status (MICE, MIStructE, or similar) or near chartered.

Experience

  • 12-15 years of post-graduate experience in a contractor environment, ideally in a technical leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of Eurocodes, DMRB, CDM, and HSEQ legislation.
  • Experience managing technical teams and coordinating with external partners.
  • Proficiency with geotechnical software (Plaxis, Frew, Wallap) and standard office tools.
