Job summary

Borough Broth is hiring a hands-on Technical Manager to lead day-to-day technical, food safety and quality at our Greenford site. You will drive the move to the new facility and embed high standards across the operation.

With SALSA to BRCGS certification as a key focus, you will develop the QMS, lead audits and build an audit-ready culture while collaborating with Production, Operations and Procurement to deliver safe, compliant and scalable products.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a Technical Manager or senior technical role within food manufacturing.
• Strong working knowledge of BRCGS, HACCP, food safety and quality management systems.
• Experience owning, developing and improving a site QMS.
• Experience with CAPA, root cause analysis and continuous improvement.

As part of this next chapter, we are also progressing from SALSA to BRCGS certification, raising our technical, food safety and quality standards as the business grows.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Technical Manager to take ownership of our day-to-day technical operation and help us raise the bar across food safety, quality and compliance.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Borough Broth at a genuine point of change. Depending on when you join, our factory move may already be underway or complete. Either way, you will have real freedom to shape how technical, food safety and quality standards are embedded and delivered across the site.

A major focus of the role will be driving our journey from SALSA to BRCGS certification, developing our Quality Management System and ensuring we build an audit-ready culture where high standards are part of how we operate every day — not simply paperwork for audit time.

We are not looking for someone to simply maintain a technical function. We want someone who can identify where we can be better, bring people with them and put their stamp on how Technical operates at Borough Broth.

Key Responsibilities

Technical, Food Safety & Quality Leadership

• Take ownership of the day-to-day technical, food safety and quality operation across the site
• Drive Borough Broth’s journey from SALSA to BRCGS certification, ensuring the business is prepared for and maintains the required standards
• Own, develop and continually improve the site Quality Management System (QMS)
• Lead and maintain food safety, HACCP, allergen management and quality controls
• Ensure robust systems are in place to protect product safety, legality, authenticity and quality
• Build an audit-ready, every-day culture, ensuring technical standards are embedded into normal factory operations
• Ensure technical documentation, procedures and records are accurate, practical and consistently maintained

Continuous Improvement & Compliance

• Lead CAPA processes, root cause analysis and the implementation of effective preventative actions
• Identify opportunities to strengthen technical processes, controls and ways of working
• Monitor technical and quality performance, identifying trends and taking proactive action where required
• Ensure strong traceability systems and support effective product recall and incident management processes
• Maintain awareness of relevant food legislation, industry standards and regulatory requirements
• Lead and support internal, external, customer and certification audits

Supplier & Product Quality

• Work closely with Procurement to strengthen supplier quality and technical approval processes
• Ensure raw materials, ingredients and packaging meet required technical, safety and quality standards
• Support supplier performance management and corrective actions where standards are not met
• Work collaboratively on NPD and EPD projects to ensure new products and processes are technically robust, compliant and scalable

Factory & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Play a key role in the technical setup and ongoing development of our new purpose-built Greenford facility
• Partner closely with Production, Operations, Procurement and other teams to ensure technical requirements are understood and delivered
• Work with teams across the factory to make food safety and quality standards part of everyday decision-making
• Provide practical technical guidance and challenge, balancing food safety and compliance requirements with the commercial and operational needs of a growing manufacturing business
• Promote a positive food safety and quality culture across all levels of the business

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, support and develop the Technical team, setting clear expectations and creating accountability
• Coach team members and support their professional development
• Build strong relationships across the factory floor and wider business
• Create a collaborative technical culture where issues are raised early, challenged constructively and resolved effectively

What You’ll Bring

Experience & Skills

• Proven experience in a Technical Manager or senior technical role within food manufacturing
• Strong working knowledge of BRCGS, HACCP, food safety and quality management systems
• Experience owning, developing and improving a site QMS
• Strong experience preparing for and managing technical, certification and customer audits
• Experience with CAPA, root cause analysis and continuous improvement
• A strong understanding of traceability, allergen management, product integrity and supplier quality
• Experience helping a manufacturing site achieve, maintain or improve BRCGS certification would be a significant advantage
• Strong communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to work effectively from the factory floor through to senior leadership
• Commercial awareness and the ability to find practical solutions while maintaining high technical standards
• Highly organised, structured and comfortable using data to identify trends and drive improvements
• Experience developing and managing technical teams
