We are currently looking for a Technical Manager to join our friendly team based at the laboratory at Tarmac Stancombe Quarry near Bristol. This vital role will manage the technical team and day-to-day laboratory operations, working effectively with the operational and commercial teams. The successful candidate will develop and coach the technical team, ensuring quality control in accordance with Health and Safety and technical specifications.

This role is accessible from Bristol, Newport, Chepstow, Forest of Dean, Gloucester, Weston-super-Mare, Bridgwater, Bath, and surrounding areas.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Senior Technical Manager, the Technical Manager will oversee the senior technicians and the wider technical team, ensuring sampling and testing requirements are met, and the laboratories operate safely and efficiently. The role may also involve standing in for the Senior Technical Manager when necessary.

The responsibilities include:

  1. Managing, developing, and coaching the technical team with a focus on health and safety standards.
  2. Providing effective testing processes in line with standards and accreditation.
  3. Identifying quality issues and initiating corrective actions.
  4. Organizing the technical team to fulfill all business requirements.
  5. Optimizing products for cost and performance, managing trial mixes, BOMS, and SAP material files.
  6. Collaborating with operational teams to resolve stock and mineral product issues.
  7. Monitoring and supporting operations to meet compliance and product consistency criteria.
  8. Adhering to quality control procedures and SOX compliance in technical operations.
  9. Investigating complaints, recommending improvements, and identifying root causes.
  10. Supporting external commercial teams with key customers.
  11. Managing the Technical Dashboard.
  12. Providing technical support to the sales department.
  13. Managing team performance, including appraisals and PDPs.
  14. Ensuring effective liaison with operational and commercial teams.
The Ideal Candidate

The candidate should have laboratory experience in the construction sector, with knowledge of aggregate and asphalt testing and production. Experience with hard rock quarries, geology, and production processes is preferred.

Required qualifications and skills include:
