Technical Lead - IT Programme

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead to join a major government IT programme focused on improving security and platforms. This is a senior technical leadership role covering critical programme activities during a period of organisational change.

Key Details

• Contract Duration: 6 months
• Location: London, Bristol, or Manchester (with weekly travel to London as required)
• Working Pattern: 2 days on-site minimum, hybrid working arrangements available
• Security Clearance: Active SC required to start

Essential Requirements

• Technical Background: Must have worked in IT or engineering roles with demonstrated technical ability
• Programme Delivery Experience: Proven experience in IT programme delivery within government context
• Senior Government Experience: Minimum 5 years in a government IT or technology environment
• Leadership Experience: Previous experience in senior technical roles such as:
  • Lead Technical Architect
  • Programme Director/Interim Programme Director
  • Programme Architect
• Financial Accountability: Experience managing budgets and financial responsibility
• Solution Development: Track record of steering technical solutions through development

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic technical direction for the programme
• Ensure quality standards across technical deliverables
• Manage complex stakeholder engagement and facilitate discussions between multiple parties
• Collaborate with programme management team and governance support
• Oversee technical aspects of a programme involving 20-30 core team members with extended team up to 100 people

Role Focus

This position is strategic and collaboration-focused rather than day-to-day operational management. You will work alongside dedicated programme managers who handle operational mechanics, allowing you to focus on technical leadership and stakeholder engagement.
