Job summary
The University of Bath invites applications for a Technical specialist in Engineered Silk Manufacturing and Optical Fibre Technologies to join the HOLLOW SILK project funded by ARIA. You will help develop and operate experimental fibre manufacturing and materials-processing systems within the Centre for Photonics.
Based in Bath, you will collaborate with postdoctoral researchers at Bath and Tufts, contribute to automation and scale-up of manufacturing processes, and support equipment design,
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in laboratory, manufacturing or engineering environments.
- Familiarity with programming or scripting for automation and data acquisition is advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Support development, assembly and operation of experimental manufacturing systems and laboratory facilities.
- Design, build and modify bespoke research equipment and prototype manufacturing platforms.
- Assist with experimental research activities, including materials preparation, equipment operation, data collection and analysis.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, inventories, technical documentation and safe working practices.
- Provide technical support and training to researchers and students.
- Work closely with project partners to help deliver research objectives and milestones.
