Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced, adaptable, and highly motivated individual to join our Digitally Aided Making technical team at the Royal College of Art. The team supports various programmes involving 2D and 3D digital manufacturing processes, including Laser Cutting, Zund digital cutting, Fiber Laser cutting for metals, and CNC milling.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support, advice, and demonstrations in Digitally Aided Making spaces.
  • Deliver instruction on digital manufacturing techniques such as Laser Cutting and Digital cutting.
  • Engage in continual learning within a dynamic team environment.
  • Assist students and staff with problem solving and technical solutions.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure health and safety standards are met, including record keeping.
  • Support the College's teaching, learning, and research activities as appropriate.
Qualifications:
  • Experience with 2D and 3D digital manufacturing processes, including CNC milling, Laser Cutting, or similar.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as Adobe Illustrator, Rhino, Powermill, Fusion, Zbrush, Mayka, DelCam, or SheetCam.
  • Understanding of digital manufacturing applications in design.
  • Knowledge of model making, pattern making, or prototyping.
  • Ability to instruct and demonstrate in small groups.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety and risk assessment procedures.
  • Experience in creating online learning materials (desirable).
  • Interest in contemporary art, design, and culture (desirable).
