Job description

Location: Teesside International Airport

Company: Willis Aviation Services Limited (WASL)

Department: Technical / Commercial

Employment Type: Full-time

About the Role

Willis Aviation Services Limited (WASL) is looking for a Technical Estimator to join our team at Teesside International Airport.

This is a key role within our aircraft maintenance organisation, responsible for preparing accurate, commercially viable and technically robust quotations for aircraft maintenance, modification and rectification work undertaken within our UK CAA Part-145 MRO environment.

Working closely with our customers, Planning, Production, Stores and Procurement teams, you will review work packages, maintenance requirements and inspection findings to develop detailed quotations covering labour, materials, parts, specialist services, tooling, facilities and other associated costs.

The role also provides an opportunity to help shape and continuously improve our estimating capability by developing historical cost and performance data, establishing standard estimating rates and analysing quoted versus actual maintenance performance.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Reviewing customer work packages, maintenance inputs, inspection findings, engineering instructions and associated technical documentation.
  • Developing detailed quotations for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, rectification, modification and component-related activities where applicable.
  • Estimating labour hours based on task complexity, aircraft configuration, access requirements, maintenance procedures and organisational experience.
  • Identifying the required manpower disciplines, including mechanical, electrical/avionics, structures and other specialist skills.
  • Identifying requirements for external specialist services, subcontractors, NDT, machining, specialist repairs and other third-party support.
  • Liaising with Production, Planning, Stores and Procurement to validate estimates and ensure quotations are accurate and achievable.
  • Creating, maintaining and continuously improving the company's quotation and estimating model.
  • Establishing and maintaining a structured database of historical quotations, actual labour performance, material costs and completed work.
  • Developing standard estimating rates, labour standards and task-duration assumptions for recurring maintenance activities.
  • Comparing quoted hours and costs against actual maintenance performance and identifying estimating variances.
  • Using data and operational experience to improve the accuracy and commercial effectiveness of future quotations.
  • Supporting the wider business with technical and commercial input where required.
What We're Looking For

We’re looking for someone with previous experience in an aircraft maintenance estimating, planning or commercial environment, who can combine technical understanding with strong analytical and organisational skills.

You’ll ideally have:
  • Previous experience in an aircraft maintenance estimating, planning or commercial role.
  • The ability to interpret aircraft maintenance documentation and technical information.
  • Experience within a Part-145 and/or Part-M/CAMO environment is desirable.
  • Knowledge of continuing airworthiness and maintenance records systems such as AMOS, OASES or Tracking Plus.
  • Technical records experience is desirable.
  • Technical knowledge representative of B737 and/or A320 family aircraft is desirable.
  • Knowledge of HF, EWIS and FTS.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple quotations and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to build effective working relationships with internal teams, customers and external stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a wider team.
Why Join WASL?

At WASL, you’ll be joining a growing aviation organisation with a strong focus on aircraft maintenance and continued development.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in the commercial and technical estimating process, while helping to develop the systems, data and processes that underpin how we quote and deliver maintenance work.

You’ll work alongside experienced aviation professionals in a collaborative environment, with the opportunity to develop your knowledge and make a tangible contribution to the continued growth of our MRO operation.
