An excellent opportunity has arisen with one of my clients who are looking for an Engineering Manager on a Critical Site based in City of London. The Engineering Manager will have a strong mechanical and electrical background and spend approximately 20% of their time writing or reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs) for use in maintenance work on business-critical infrastructure. Most importantly, the Engineering Manager will own the implementation, standardisation, and ongoing ownership of the local Critical Environments Program.
Duties will include:
- Provide leadership, ensuring contractual commitments are met and exceeded.
- Identify opportunities for strategic development of the contract to increase turnover and profitability, add additional services and projects, and re-win contracts on re-tender.
- Communicate and implement business policies and processes effectively within the contract.
- Ensure healthy and safe working conditions, and that health and safety policies are effectively implemented across all activities.
- Optimize staffing structures to balance cost reduction and service excellence, supporting workload peaks and disaster recovery.
- Ensure contracts are staffed with fully competent teams, with effective succession planning.
- Collaborate with other operational managers to develop the business, foster effective teamwork, and support colleagues.
- Support the UKI Engineering Manager in developing financial plans for revenue, profit, WIP reduction, debt management, cost reduction, and contract growth, ensuring targets are met and exceeded.
- Implement control systems to meet statutory, policy, and contractual commitments.
- Maintain customer focus in all operational activities and sustain effective relationships with key client contacts.
- Provide leadership, guidance, coaching, and support to deliver best practices in team management.
- Communicate effectively through management meetings, briefings, reports, and other publications.
- Foster a learning environment with appropriate training and development plans to ensure staff competence and potential.
- Innovate to improve building, plant, and system energy efficiency.
- Be flexible in work attitude, willing to diversify skills and work overtime when needed.
Requirements:
- Recognized apprenticeship, ONC/BTEC in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, or demonstrable equivalent attainment.
- Experience in HV switching and Safe Systems of Work, including being an appointed Authorised Person Electrical/Mechanical.
- At least five years’ experience in data centre operations, maintenance, and engineering supporting Tier 3 or higher critical facilities.
- Proven experience with business-critical engineering systems.
- Experience in HV operations.
- Experience working within a client contract environment with specific KPI performance measures.
- Minimum five years’ experience managing a team.
- Practical experience working with supply partners to deliver integrated services.
- Customer service experience and strong communication skills at all levels.
