Job description

A career without limits

As the nation’s flag carrier, we take phenomenal pride in connecting Britain with the world and the world with Britain.

It’s something we’ve been doing for over 100 years, ever since we launched the world’s first international scheduled air service between London and Paris.

This originality has been in our blood since day one. It’s the spirit we share with the people that fly with us, our partners, and our colleagues.

So, whether you are a reassuring voice on the end of a phone, a smile at the door, under a wing keeping the turbines spinning, or landing us gently in far-flung places, a job at British Airways is yours to make.

We know great things can happen when you’re inspired to think big and bring your ambition to work every day, which is why, at British Airways, the sky is never the limit.

The Role:

Technical Engineer – Powerplant

Would you like to join us as a Powerplant Technical Engineer responsible for the safety, reliability, operational performance, and maintenance costs of our engines and APUs?

This role allows you to design and develop technical and commercial solutions for our fleet by collaborating with aviation authorities, key suppliers, and colleagues across the airline. Our fleet includes complex aircraft such as the A320, A380, B777, as well as newer models like the A350, B787, and B777X.

This position offers a great opportunity to develop your career both technically and within the wider community. You will be supported to gain approvals such as Technical Engineer Part M, Part 145, and Part 21 CCE & CVE, with potential career progression to Senior Technical Engineer, Technical Team Leader, and management roles.

This role rewards your knowledge, collaboration, energy, and resilience.

What you’ll do:
  • Review, evaluate, and approve technical documentation to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
  • Support technical decision-making and lead discussions across departments, considering business impacts.
  • Maintain technical standards, policies, and strategic direction, including future legislation impacts.
  • Act as a technical and airworthiness consultant for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Hold and exercise EASA Part M, Part 145, and Part 21 approvals as required.
  • Monitor fleet technical performance and develop improvement plans to meet reliability targets.
  • Lead or support technical investigations following safety procedures.
  • Prioritize workload to ensure compliance with company procedures, policies, and regulations.
  • Communicate operational and business performance to senior stakeholders effectively.
What you’ll bring to British Airways:
  • Problem-solving, analytical, and technical decision-making skills.
  • Strong team collaboration and emotional intelligence.
  • Project management, organization, and prioritization abilities.
  • Experience in report and business case writing with commercial awareness.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with a customer focus.
  • Self-motivation and initiative in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience managing suppliers.
  • Hands-on aircraft/engine experience is desirable.
Your experience:
  • Ability to hold CAA/EASA approvals or BA equivalents.
  • Approvals such as Part-21J, Part-145, and Part-M (Essential).
  • HNC/HND or equivalent in Aerospace Engineering.
  • Recognized Aircraft Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in the field (Essential).
  • Degree in Aerospace Engineering (Desirable).
  • EASA Part 66 License (Desirable).
What we offer:

We value our employees and offer rewards beyond a competitive salary, including unlimited standby staff travel benefits on British Airways flights and up to 30 discounted 'Hotline' airfares annually for yourself, friends, and family.

We encourage career development and internal mobility, supporting you to grow and take on new challenges in our dynamic environment.
