Role description:

As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Technical Director with a strong track record in Development/Residential Planning. This role suits someone who is passionate about the integration of environmental input within the Planning process – a Chartered Town Planner and the role forms part of the leadership for the Planning and Environmental Assessment and Management (PEAM) Team.

With your specialism in environmental management, or your technical or sustainability expertise, your work could involve protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality or noise. And in some of the world’s busiest and most beautiful locations.

Role accountabilities:

You will be working on a diverse range of projects including large scale energy and infrastructure, rail, highways, water and defence projects, mixed-use development schemes for both private and public clients, public realm and masterplanning projects as well as more small scale projects that require a nimble and agile approach. We drive technical excellence in everything we do and promote a flexible and collaborative environment supported by digital innovation. You will play a key role in the successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects across the UK / worldwide.

You will also be responsible for the following:

  • Working as part of the Leadership, responsible for recruitment, growth, actively overseeing bidding and project delivery and leading on some key Clients
  • Leading on the coordination and delivery of planning / environmental work being undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams, influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental and planning outcomes
  • Support business development activities through participation in external market profile raising activities and functions, and through involvement with key clients.
  • Raise awareness of our services, winning new opportunities and building new contacts.
  • Actively engage in key client relationships, lead by example creating cross selling opportunities for the wider business.
  • Engaging with consultees and stakeholders
  • Managing projects, overseeing our performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety

Qualifications & Experience:

  • In-depth knowledge of the UK planning system and consenting processes, including practical application across a range of development types.
  • Desired: Proven experience delivering planning advice for residential, logistics, or manufacturing projects.
  • Strong understanding and application of the Town and Country Planning Act and associated legislation.
  • Skilled in multi-disciplinary project coordination, with proven leadership, project management, and technical delivery capabilities.
  • Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement, including consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators, and key stakeholders.
  • Commercially astute, with experience in forecasting, project financial management, and quality assurance.
  • Holds a relevant degree or equivalent qualification; Chartered Member of the RTPI or actively working towards chartered status.
  • Experience in the delivery of major infrastructure planning applications, including DCOs, TWAOs, or Hybrid Bills.
