Location: Glasgow or Perth, Scotland (Hybrid Working Available)

Salary: £65,000 – £75,000 (DOE)

The Opportunity

Eden Scott is working in partnership with a small but growing environmental consultancy to recruit a Peatland Hydrology Technical Director.

This is a rare opportunity to join a supportive leadership team and take ownership of technical direction, mentoring, and business development within a highly respected water environment team.

Role Overview

As Technical Director, you’ll lead on peatland hydrology, restoration, and water environment services. You’ll provide senior-level expertise on complex projects, oversee technical quality, and support the growth of internal capability.

You’ll also work closely with the senior management team on continuous improvement, team development, and business strategy—making this an ideal role for someone looking to step up or broaden their influence within a mission-driven organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical delivery in peatland hydrology, restoration design, and upland land management
  • Oversee and contribute to:
  • Peat Management Plans
  • Hydrology, Hydrogeology, and Soils EIAR chapters
  • PWS, GWDTE and PLHRA assessments
  • Mentor and support team development, identifying and addressing skills gaps
  • Uphold best practice, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance
  • Contribute to business development, writing proposals and engaging with clients
  • Maintain strong relationships with key regulators (e.g. SEPA, NatureScot, EA)
  • Help shape internal culture, health and safety, and performance standards

What We’re Looking For

  • 10–15+ years’ industry experience in peatland hydrology or environmental water services
  • Relevant degree in environmental science, hydrology, or related field (MSc/PhD )
  • Chartered with a recognised professional body (e.g. CIWEM, IEMA, ICE)
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK peatland guidance and planning policy (including the Peatland Code and Peatland ACTION)
  • Proven experience delivering work for renewable energy or utilities sectors
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with experience in stakeholder negotiation
  • A track record in project delivery and client relationship management
