Summary: The role involves providing technical front-line support to industrial process/clean water treatment operations across the UK, monitoring process performance daily and over time, fault finding, and providing site technical guidance with significant technical capabilities to understand and implement process changes to maintain performance.

The Technical Development Specialist will serve as NSI’s primary on-site technical presence for the operations teams, requiring travel within a set region and occasionally across the UK.

They will lead and support water-related projects and business development opportunities, conduct site-specific feasibility studies, and develop process improvement plans, sharing best practices with the O&M performance teams.

The role is supported by Site, Area, and Territory Managers, along with specialists from other company services. The candidate should be experienced in Water Treatment/Chemical/Process Engineering, using their knowledge to improve treatment efficiencies, investigate performance issues, and support operational teams.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Promote safety leadership and uphold company policies and legislative requirements.
  • Possess in-depth process knowledge for fault finding, risk assessment, and process change impacts.
  • Monitor process performance daily, providing technical guidance to ensure optimal activity and risk mitigation.
  • Ensure compliance with site-specific process parameters, KPIs, client requirements, and regulatory consents.
  • Support industrial water treatment operations on-site, focusing on operational costs and process efficiency.
  • Coordinate with O&M teams to share best practices and manage risks related to long-term site service contracts.
  • Participate in customer review meetings to report on plant performance and risks.
  • Identify opportunities for additional support and develop water-related business opportunities with the Business Development Team.
  • Review data related to water treatment assets, identify performance issues, and plan solutions.
  • Manage pilot plant operations, data collection, and presentation.
  • Contribute to design reviews for new assets and process modifications, assessing risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Lead by example, collaborate with wider teams, and respond to emergencies technically.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Degree and post-graduate qualification in relevant Engineering or water treatment field, or significant experience.
  • Deep understanding of industrial clean/process water treatment technologies (membranes, ion exchange, EDI, etc.).
  • Minimum 5 years of site-based water treatment experience.
  • Knowledge of business strategy, stakeholder communication, and influencing skills.
  • Full clean driving license.
  • Additional qualifications in HSQE, leadership, project management, etc., are desirable.

Working for us means:

The salary ranges from £45,000 to £55,000 depending on experience. Hours are 40 per week, Monday to Friday. Benefits include a company vehicle or allowance, holidays, pension, healthcare, income protection, and death in service. Notice period is 1 week during probation, increasing to 1 month afterward.
