Job summary

SRS Recruitment Solutions in Derbyshire seeks a Technical Design & Estimating Coordinator to convert complex customer enquiries into accurate quotations for masonry products and to support the sales team and production planner.

You will interpret drawings, provide 3D sketches to assist customers, develop product records in ERP, and help maximise project value while ensuring profitability and timely, professional quotations.

Job Title

Technical Design & Estimating Coordinator- Heavyside Building Products

Job Description

Are you interested in joining a well-established supplier of heavyside building products who are looking to appoint an Estimating Coordinator to help them capitalise on opportunities across construction industry.

The Role

The Technical Design & Estimating Coordinator is responsible for supporting the sales team and the production planner in converting complex customer enquiries into accurate, profitable quotations for masonry products.

The role acts as the technical bridge between customers, the sales team and their production facility, ensuring customer requirements are interpreted correctly and transformed into commercially viable solutions that can be manufactured efficiently.

The position provides technical support to both customers and the sales team, enabling sales representatives to focus on relationship management and order conversion whilst ensuring specialist quotations are produced accurately, professionally and within agreed timescales.

Specific duties would include:

Technical Quotation & Estimating

• Review customer drawings, schedules, specifications and project information.
• Interpret complex enquiries and convert requirements into detailed quotations.
• On occasion, calculate quantities, wastage allowances and material requirements.
• Establish manufacturing requirements and determine production viability.
• Create new product records, descriptions and pricing structures within the ERP system

Technical Support

• Provide practical guidance to the sales team & customers regarding brick specials and cutting solutions
• Recommend alternative solutions where these improve aesthetics, performance or cost-effectiveness
• Provide drawings in 3D drawing packages such as 'SketchUp' to assist customers in maintaining bond patterns and design intent when using specials or cut bricks
• Provide support in the preparation of technical drawings and bespoke product details

Commercial Development

• Identify opportunities to maximise project value through complementary products.
• Support sales colleagues with technical and commercial recommendations.
• Ensure quotations reflect both customer requirements and business profitability objectives.

Product & Data Management

• Maintain and improve the company's specials product database.
• Develop a library of customer brick types, cutting requirements and manufacturing solutions.
• Own and continuously improve product descriptions, coding structures and technical data.

Production & Planning Support

• Support production planning activities when required
• Liaise with production teams to ensure quotations remain aligned with manufacturing capability and capacity.

Measurement & Take-Offs

• Perform quantity take-offs from drawings where required
• Verify customer quantities and identify omissions or inconsistencies
• Support project budgeting and enquiry qualification activities

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

• Ability to interpret technical drawings and construction information.
• Strong commercial awareness and numerical ability.
• Experience preparing quotations and pricing calculations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and business systems.

Desirable Experience

• Masonry, brick, concrete, stone or construction materials experience.
• Experience with bespoke manufactured products.
• ERP system experience.
• CAD or technical drawing experience.
