Overview

We are looking for a Technical Contract Manager to join the Projects at Thermatic Technical FM. As a Thermatic Technical Contract Manager you are a key member of the Thermatic Projects Division. The division's main aim is to provide clients with a Design and Build Service for their mechanical installation requirements. As a Technical Contract Manager you will support this purpose by delivering the HVAC installation projects across several clients. Thermatic Technical FM provide complete nationwide coverage, across the full spectrum of Hard FM services to large, commercial clients. Our team of mobile engineers are supported by the account teams at Head Office to provide both reactive breakdown and planned maintenance services to our clients.

Hours & Location of Work

Main location - This role will be flexible, based at our Head Office in Manchester, but will also require travel to sites across the United Kingdom.

Regular hours of work - Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm - 40 hour working week. Whilst this is our company standard working week, our engineers require "out of hours" support, so an aspect of this is to be expected.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

  • At least 3 years operating as a Technical Manager/ Project Manager in the FM sector. Whether Building Services, HVAC, or M&E
  • Experience delivering projects in line with CDM regulations.
  • Experience with managing a Project budget and P&L for an annual account of £1m+
  • Evidence of working on several projects simultaneously in and delivering them all on time and to the expected standard
  • SMSTS and CSCS card.
  • Full UK driving license

Desirable:

  • Technical qualification HNC or above
  • Experience working with JCT Minor works + and / or NEC level 3 + contracts.
  • Formal Project Management qualification (Prince2, Agile, APMQ)
  • Previous experience as an installation engineer
  • HVAC compliance qualifications (F-GAS / Gas SAFE)
Responsibilities
  • Manage installation projects from quotation through to pre-construction, construction, testing, and commissioning.
  • Ensure project deliverables are defined, agreed upon, and achieved within scope, time, and budget.
  • Conduct material take-offs and arrange all necessary equipment, materials, plant, and labour to align with the project programme.
  • Coordinate and manage labour and resources to maintain adherence to project timelines.
  • Provide technical support and liaise with the design team to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Survey sites for new equipment installations.
  • Compile and complete Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS) in a timely and thorough manner, accounting for all relevant hazards.
  • Conduct regular site visits to ensure SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) standards and project milestones are met.
  • Act as point of escalation and provide formal briefings to engineers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Liaise with office-based staff, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure clear communication and coordination.
  • Provide accurate and competitive quotations, ensuring pricing reflects current market conditions.
  • Conduct regular commercial reviews to monitor project performance and ensure proactive billing of milestones and submission of variations.
  • Control project budgets, seeking opportunities for cost-saving where possible.
  • Collate documentation and submit O&M manuals and warranties upon project completion.
  • Liaise with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure project delivery aligns with contractual agreements.
  • Attend stakeholder and client meetings as required.
  • Develop and maintain strong, constructive relationships with clients.
  • Provide technical and value engineering advice based on project scope and potential.
  • Offer out-of-hours support in accordance with client and site requirements.
  • Support clients nationally and attend sites across mainland UK as needed.
