As a Technical Compliance Manager, you will lead the end-to-end responsibility for ensuring the technical, legal, and food safety compliance of all products destined for export to the EU and the UK domestic market. You will manage internal compliance systems, policies, and procedures to meet or exceed legal and customer standards. Working cross-functionally with key internal departments and external partners, you will play a critical role in driving a culture of compliance, food safety, and continuous improvement throughout the business.
Duties:
- Lead and manage all products export to the EU ensuring full compliance with legal and technical requirements.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of internal compliance systems and procedures.
- Generate and maintain up-to-date compliance policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Develop and maintain systems to mitigate risks related to fraudulent or adulterated food materials (TACCP & VACCP).
- Monitor and ensure adherence to emerging and existing food legislation (UK & EU), including HACCP, Supplier Quality Assurance.
- Collaborate with technical, quality, production, NPD, commercial, marketing, and procurement teams to align on compliance and food safety matters.
- Support internal and external auditing activities; lead the implementation of corrective actions to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Manage specifications team workload and maintain specification accuracy and legal integrity.
- Manage and maintain the internal Point 74 system for BOP data generation
- Demonstrate working knowledge of customer standards through training, audit readiness, and compliance documentation.
- Design and deliver internal training programs for food safety and legal compliance, aligned with UK-recognised qualifications.
- Provide compliance data and gap analyses to support CAPEX proposals and strategic decision-making
- Improving and implementing agreed ways of working
- Identifying and communicating training needs
- Act as the compliance lead for external audits and visits by TSO, EHO, and key customers
- Ensure legal accuracy and compliance of all product labelling and artwork (including branded and customer own-label products)
- Lead supplier assurance activities, including conducting high-risk supplier audits
- Embed a high-performance, compliance-focused culture through leadership, coaching, and training
- Maintain and evolve the Compliance Manual to meet customer and audit expectations, ensuring effective communication across the business
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with external authorities, suppliers, auditors, and internal stakeholders
The Person:
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in a senior technical or compliance role within the food manufacturing or food service industry.
- Practical experience of using specification or artwork packages
- Demonstrable experience of independent working, managing your own workload and time management
- Demonstrable experience of workload planning
- Demonstrable risk-based decision making
- Proven experience managing export compliance to the EU.
- Demonstrable experience leading audits and preparing for regulatory and customer inspections
- Welcomes personal development, has undertaken a management development programme or keen to participate in one
- Degree level educational qualifications in food or regulatory subject with sound technical knowledge, or able to demonstrate excellent relevant experience
- In-depth knowledge of UK and EU food legislation and regulatory frameworks
- Confident to share knowledge and experience with customers and internal colleagues
- Very good understanding of food safety systems including HACCP, VACCP, and TACCP
- Sound technical knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes
