Job description

Technical & Business Support Officer

We are currently seeking a friendly, hardworking, conscientious individual to join our team as a Business & Technical Support Officer. The successful candidate will join a multi-skilled team providing business support to Planning, Planning Policy, Environmental Health, Trading Standards, and Building Control. You will be responsible for undertaking a wide range of technical and administrative duties, whilst providing excellent customer service, managing conflicting priorities, and supporting continual development. You will be part of a team of 4 Business & Technical Support Officers, working on a rota system of Office and Working from Home (WFH), ensuring office and phone cover until 5 pm (Monday to Thursday) and 4:30 pm on a Friday. Full training will be provided, and you will be expected to work from the Office until your training is satisfactorily completed.

As a Business & Technical Support Officer, you should have experience working in a fast-paced, busy office environment with data management skills.

Your daily duties will include technical, administrative, and clerical tasks for Planning, Planning Enforcement, and Building Control, such as:

  • Registering and maintaining accurate applications/records
  • Offering technical advice to the public on basic Building Regulations & Planning inquiries
  • Receiving, receipting, and banking all monies, including cash payments, cheques, and credit card payments over the phone
  • Reading/scaling plans to assess validity of submissions and fees due on applications
  • Preparing debtor invoices for fees or charges due
  • Extracting data from back-office systems for management reports

About you:

Do you have:

  • 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English, or equivalent NVQ or similar, or significant experience (minimum 5 years) in a similar role
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, busy office environment
  • Experience in data management
  • Ability to maintain high standards of work and accuracy with minimal supervision and exercise good judgment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, both face-to-face and on the telephone

Experience with office & clerical backgrounds is welcomed.
