Engineering Business Development Manager

Hybrid: Office, home & on the road
8:30am-5:00pm Mon-Fri

Salary: GBP45-50K DOE plus commission and benefits
Car Allowance: GBP5100 per annum

Over the past 30 years, we have grown a team of dedicated professionals offering a wide range of services from pump station design, installation, and maintenance. We also developed a successful drainage capability and large tanker fleet, expanding from simply pumping solutions to providing a complete water in, waste out service.

The Engineering Business Development Manager (BDM) plays a critical role in driving the growth and expansion of our engineering services and products. This individual is responsible for identifying, developing, and nurturing business opportunities with both new and existing clients. The role requires a blend of technical understanding, commercial acumen, and excellent relationship-building skills to effectively communicate our engineering solutions and secure business deals.

What does it entail?

This role will be predominantly office-based at our HQ in Aylesford. You will be responsible for developing and growing new business accounts, managing the full process from lead generation to presenting opportunities and maintaining client relationships.

The ideal candidate will have proven sales experience within key industries such as Utilities, Aviation, Rail, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Residential. You should have an inquisitive nature, with a focus on mapping out your business to maximize client relationships.

What experience and behaviours do we look for?

  • 5+ years of experience in business development or sales, ideally within an engineering or technical services environment.
  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and closing large-scale deals.
  • Experience in managing client relationships, including negotiating contracts and managing expectations.
  • Experience working with technical teams to deliver engineering solutions.
  • A positive self-starter with a strong commitment to your work.
  • Up-to-date with social media trends and best practices, especially LinkedIn.
  • Energetic, tenacious, and optimistic outlook.
  • Strong understanding of engineering products and services, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, market trends, and regulatory requirements relevant to engineering.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and CRM software (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, or equivalent).
  • Curious approach to work and an inquisitive mindset.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate customer needs and propose suitable engineering solutions.
  • Influencing skills.
  • Full clean UK driving license.
  • Ability to commute to the Head Office in Aylesford 1-2 days per week.
