At Willow Pumps, we are proud to be one of the UK’s leading providers of water pump solutions, including design, supply, installation, and servicing of all ‘water in, waste out’ assets.

Over the past 30 years, we have grown a team of dedicated professionals providing a wide range of services from pump station design, installation, and maintenance. As we grew, we also developed a successful drainage capability and large tanker fleet, expanding our offerings from simply pumping solutions to providing a complete ‘water in, waste out’ service.

The Engineering Business Development Manager (BDM) plays a critical role in driving the growth and expansion of the company’s engineering services or products. This individual is responsible for identifying, developing, and nurturing business opportunities with both new and existing clients. The role requires a blend of technical understanding, commercial acumen, and excellent relationship-building skills to effectively communicate the company’s engineering solutions and secure business deals.

What does it entail?

This role will be predominantly office-based at our HQ in Aylesford. You will be responsible for developing and growing new business accounts. You will handle the full process from generating leads, presenting business opportunities, to managing those client relationships.

The ideal candidate will have proven sales experience within key industries such as Utilities, Aviation, Rail, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Residential. You should have an inquisitive nature and be adept at mapping out your business to maximize all client relationships.

What experience and behaviors do we look for?

  • 5+ years of experience in business development or sales, ideally within an engineering or technical services environment.
  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and closing large-scale deals.
  • Experience in managing client relationships, including negotiating contracts and managing expectations.
  • Prior experience working with technical teams to deliver engineering solutions.
  • A positive self-starter with a strong commitment to your work.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of social media trends and best practices, especially LinkedIn.
  • An energetic, tenacious, and positive outlook.
  • Strong understanding of engineering products and services, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, market trends, and regulatory requirements relevant to engineering.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and CRM software (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot).
  • A curious approach and inquisitive mind.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate customer needs and propose suitable engineering solutions.
  • Influencing skills.
  • Full clean UK Driving license.
  • Ability to commute to Head Office in Aylesford 1-2 days per week.

What will you receive?

  • A personalized and competitive commission and bonus structure.
  • Car allowance of £5100.
  • Auto-enrollment pension.
  • Paid leave of 25 days plus 8 statutory days.
  • Company benefits.
