Job Summary

We are looking for a Technical Authority in the field of Composite Manufacturing Process Development to join the GKN Aerospace Technology team. This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape the future of advanced manufacturing technologies for GKN Aerospace. The successful candidate will have demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the field of composite manufacturing process development and a proven track record in leading and executing complex technology development projects, particularly in Resin Transfer Moulding and large-scale primary wing structures.

The Technical Authority will be responsible for leading the development and supporting the industrialisation of state-of-the-art composite manufacturing processes. Key responsibilities include ensuring technical excellence, driving innovation, leading a multidisciplinary team, supporting strategic planning, and maintaining compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Lead research engineers and specialists, fostering a culture of care, innovation, integrity, and ownership. Provide expert guidance on composite manufacturing technologies and processes, including strategic input.
  • Process Development: Lead development and optimisation of composite manufacturing processes, including material selection, tooling, and supplier engagement.
  • Innovation: Drive innovation to enhance product performance and reduce costs.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure processes meet TRL and aerospace quality and regulatory standards.
  • Project Management: Lead strategic projects, report on progress, and manage budgets and schedules.
  • Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of technologies.
  • Training and Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior engineers and technicians.
  • Problem Solving: Address technical challenges systematically to improve efficiency and quality.
Qualifications and Attributes

Essential: Bachelor's or Master's in Materials Science, Engineering, or related; extensive experience in aerospace composite process development; recognized contribution to the field; knowledge of high-maturity RTM; strong leadership and communication skills; proven problem-solving ability; extensive professional network.

Desirable: Proactive innovation mindset; collaborative attitude; flexibility to adapt to industry trends.
