Job description

Role title: Team Leader (Technical Authors & Administrators)

Location: RG7 4PR & RG30 3RR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.

Package: £49,480 - £60,000 (depending on your suitability & level of experience)

Let us introduce the role

We are looking to appoint a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead a team of Technical Authors and Administrators in support of various programmes. We would like forward-thinking leaders that possess the qualities to manage a team and transform how we author and provide technical information to operational areas. Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home with this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidates will be expected to work on site at least 75% of the time.

You would be responsible for one of five Technical Author teams working within the Capability project to establish, integrate, and maintain local processes in Engineering at AWE. Training on the job can be provided, as required.

Who are we looking for?

Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we'd like you to have experience in some of the following:

  1. Defining and managing the team's operational plans to ensure delivery of Manufacturing and engineering Processes and their Governance.
  2. Accountability for leading, coaching and developing a diverse team of people at a local level to deliver technical and personal objectives safely and securely to meet our operational plans (First Level Leader).
  3. Assessing staff performance, measured against agreed personal objectives and accountabilities, and taking corrective action to improve performance where necessary via appropriate management interventions.
  4. Ensuring that the work undertaken by the team and/or teams is consistent with AWE strategy, policies, processes, procedures, and quality standards.
  5. Working within Capability under Business Transformation to establish, integrate and maintain local processes in Technology Centres.
  6. Working with the engineering communities to provide problem resolution, guidance, and governance.
  7. Maintaining and promoting high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security, and quality and be a great team player.
  8. Ensuring direct reports (and their direct reports as applicable) are SQEP, competent and developed appropriately to meet both current and future objectives.
  9. Identification of all legislation and regulatory requirements associated with new and existing processes, ensuring compliance.

We would love you to have the following skills:

  1. Technical Authoring.
  2. Manufacturing system documentation generation.
  3. In depth understanding of Engineering business processes.
  4. Experience of successfully managing a high performing and motivated team and the ability to deconflict high priority work/projects.
  5. Proven track record of driving delivery, performance, and continuous improvement.
  6. Excellent decision making and problem-solving abilities.
  7. Competence in the use of MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  8. A degree or HNC/HND in a STEM discipline, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent NQF level 4/5 qualification.
  9. Possess appropriate experience within a manufacturing environment (desirable).
  10. Project Management skills and knowledge of associated tools are a strong advantage.
