Job description

Overview

The purpose of the role is the creation of assessment, audit, guidance notes, blogs, training course content and supporting launch communications and channels (with our Marketing Team) that assists the supplier assurance team, their clients and their products and services offered into the rail industry.

You will be responsible for converting concept into reality, and updating older products, by working effectively with subject matter experts, senior stakeholders, collaboration groups and partners with the support of Supplier Assurance team and the wider RSSB under the guidance of the Product Development Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Collect and edit complex information while working with internal teams to gain an in-depth understanding of the design requirements and supporting documentation.
  • Produce new documents such as audits, assessments, and instructions with the support of Subject Matter Experts or User Groups. Create and update the quality system to meet various industry standards.
  • Attend committee and standard development meetings, and travel to our offices and Buyer and Supplier locations for collaborative sessions.
  • Produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards, is cross-referenced to the design requirements, and is appropriate for its intended audience.
  • Proofread written material to ensure documents are ready for publication, providing the final quality check while adhering to RSSB’s house style, branding, and editorial guidelines. Maintain effective communication with technical authors during the proofreading process and follow due process for website publication.
  • Stay updated on language trends, grammar rules, technology trends including AI, and industry-specific terminology. This may include commissioning or creating (including AI) photographs or illustrations to integrate with documents and other mediums.
  • Update or rewrite existing documents, write easy-to-understand user interface text, online help, and user guides. Analyse existing and potential content to ensure clear and easy-to-understand documents are produced.
  • Work on digital or multi-channel content such as blogs, e-learning, or podcasts with input from the Customer Development Manager and Competence & Training Manager.
  • Ensure end users, with support from accountable assurance team members, are updated with new or revised documentation.
  • Conduct thorough testing of new protocols on the system to ensure accuracy and functionality. Support the Product Development team in testing system changes and ensure they are accurately documented and effectively communicated. Organise and conduct testing sessions with user groups to gather feedback on new protocols and documentation. Analyse feedback from user groups to identify areas for improvement and incorporate necessary changes.
Qualifications

Essential:

  • Experience in proofreading technical documentation, as well as attention to detail and the ability to spot errors and inconsistencies whilst working on tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in documentation tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, Co Pilot (or similar) or specialised authoring software) and/or wider Microsoft packages.
  • Communicate effectively and share thoughts and ideas through methods appropriate to the audience.
  • Adapt and respond effectively when embracing new opportunities, change and in navigating uncertainty.
  • Actively contribute as part of a team and work towards achieving team goals and outcomes.
  • Take responsibility and demonstrate accountability in completing tasks and achieving objectives, actively seeking to resolve problems and identify opportunities.
  • Committed to customer service and placing customer satisfaction at the heart of our success to ensure we deliver against our shared goals.
  • Build effective professional relationships with stakeholders, understanding their unique goals and motivations, gaining credibility and effectively influencing to achieve desired outcomes.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience creating and illustrating documentation such as briefings, manuals, blogs, case studies and communications.
  • Understanding of, or willing to understand use of AI in a creative environment.
