We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Author, to join our team and contribute to the high-quality technical documentation that supports our Class I Medical Devices and the clinicians and patients who rely on them.

The Role

As a Technical Author, you will create and manage a wide range of documents, including Instructions for Use, User Guides, and Clinician Manuals, that meet MDR compliance and regulatory standards.

Working closely with engineers, designers, and regulatory specialists, you will ensure our documentation is clear, consistent, and user focused.

This role also offers an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of technical writing at Blatchford through the exploration of AI and content automation, supporting continuous improvements in how we create, manage, and deliver information.

As Technical Author, you will do the following:

• Designing, writing, illustrating, and editing a variety of technical publications.
• Collaborating with subject matter experts to gather and verify technical content.
• Maintaining and updating document libraries across InDesign and PLM platforms.
• Coordinating translation workflows and managing multilingual documentation.
• Applying brand standards and ensuring visual and editorial consistency.
• Supporting innovation by testing and implementing AI and automation tools.
• Ensuring documentation complies with internal processes and regulatory frameworks.

What are we looking for?

As Technical Author, your will have the following:

• Proven experience as a Technical Author, ideally in engineering or medical devices.
• Excellent writing and editing skills with a focus on plain English.
• Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
• Familiarity with PLM systems (e.g., Windchill) and document control processes.
• Technical illustration experience and basic 2D/3D CAD knowledge (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
• Awareness of AI and automation tools in content development (e.g., RAG models, prompt engineering).
• Comfortable working with XML/HTML/JSON; multilingual content experience is a plus.
• Ability to quickly generate prototype code to support investigation of patterns in defined data sets.
• Interest in clinical data and biomechanics
• Detail-oriented, organised, and self-driven.
• Confident communicator and collaborative team player.
• Flexible, open-minded, and keen to learn new skills and technologies.
• Able to work effectively with technical experts and contribute to a shared knowledge base
