Job summary

GSL Education seeks an experienced Technical Assessor to support apprentices in Plate Welding and Metal Fabrication. You will deliver high-quality apprenticeship training, conduct workplace assessments and learner reviews, and manage a caseload to help learners progress.

Ideal candidates will have vocational welding/fabrication experience, a TAQA/CAVA or equivalent, and a willingness to work towards a teaching qualification. Access to ongoing CPD and dedicated consultant support are provided.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Welding, Fabrication or engineering sectors.
  • Experience delivering training, mentoring or assessing apprentices.
  • Post-16 teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one.
  • TAQA/CAVA or equivalent assessor qualification or willingness to achieve.
  • GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C/4 or above.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and IT skills.
  • Ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering high-quality apprenticeship training within Plate Welding and Metal Fabrication.
  • Conducting workplace assessments, learner reviews and employer visits.
  • Managing a caseload of apprentices and supporting them throughout their learning journey.
  • Planning and delivering engaging training sessions that meet apprenticeship standards.
  • Monitoring learner progress and maintaining accurate learner records using e-portfolio systems.
  • Preparing learners for End Point Assessment (EPA) and successful qualification achievement.
  • Building positive relationships with employers to support learner development and progression.
  • Promoting safeguarding, Prevent Duty, equality, diversity and inclusion throughout all aspects of delivery.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to continuously improve teaching, learning and assessment.

GSL Education is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Technical Assessor to support apprentices and learners undertaking qualifications in Plate Welding and Metal Fabrication.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced industry professional looking to move into Further Education, or for an established assessor who is passionate about developing the next generation of skilled engineers. You will work closely with apprentices and employers to deliver high-quality training, workplace assessments and learner support, helping individuals progress towards successful completion of their qualifications.

The Role

As a Technical Assessor, your responsibilities will include:

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate for Technical Assessor will have:

  • A strong background within Welding, Fabrication or the wider Engineering sector.
  • Proven vocational experience within fabrication and welding.
  • Experience delivering training, mentoring or assessing apprentices (desirable).
  • A Post-16 Teaching Qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DET or equivalent), or a willingness to work towards one.
  • A TAQA, CAVA or equivalent Assessor qualification, or a willingness to achieve this.
  • GCSE English and Mathematics (Grade C/Level 4 or above), or equivalent.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and IT skills.The ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines.
