Our Mission

Radical Forge is a Middlesbrough, UK-based developer that has provided co-development services on a range of AAA and indie titles. In 2021 the company created their first original IP, 'Bright Paw', which was published on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One/Series S/X, Google and iOS by Rogue Games. We are currently working on our newest IP, Southfield, which you can look forward to playing soon!

Your Mission

Radical Forge is hiring a Technical Artist to support the art team on several exciting internal and co-development projects. You will report to the Lead Artist as well as to production, but you will also have day-to-day interaction with engineering and design. The role will allow growth and skill development across many areas of interactive development and project/art styles in Unity, Unreal Engine, and potentially custom game engines.

Responsibilities

  • Pipeline development and art optimization
  • Tool and script development to support the art team and streamline workflows
  • Shader development
  • Communicate technical requirements to the art team and mentor artists where appropriate
  • Troubleshoot and resolve art-related issues
  • Document pipelines, procedures, and processes

Skills Summary

  • Experienced in development in Unreal Engine (primary) and Unity (secondary)
  • 3-5 years experience as a Tech Artist in a games studio
  • Portfolio demonstrating relevant experience in some of the above areas of development
  • Strong understanding of 3D pipelines and 3D software (e.g., Maya, Max, Blender, Substance suite)
  • Experience with lighting and post-processing ideally in Unity Render Pipelines
  • VFX/particle creation
  • Shader development experience (UE Material Editor and Unity Shadergraph/Amplify)
  • Solid understanding of runtime performance costs and asset optimization techniques
  • Able to follow art direction and debug/troubleshoot issues related to game assets, effects, etc.
  • Understanding of managing assets in a versioning system (ideally Perforce)
  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to implement gameplay-specific art assets
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Remote within the UK.

We will require all applicants to have a pre-existing right to work in the UK.

The role will initially be a 12-month Fixed Term contract with the potential to extend after this.
