Location: We operate a flexible, hybrid working environment with the candidate required to travel to either our Winchester or London office once or twice a week.

Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled Technical Architect to join our Data and Insights Team, responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive data architecture cloud solutions that align with our business objectives. This role will play a critical part in shaping our data architecture, ensuring scalability, security, and efficiency while leveraging AWS, Databricks, and other cloud-based data platforms.
The Role
- Data Architecture & Strategy
- Design scalable, secure, and high-performance data architectures in AWS & Databricks that meet business and technical requirements and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards.
- Define best practices for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and access in a cloud-native environment.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (including Enterprise Architects and Data Engineers) to translate business requirements into effective technical architecture designs, standards and best practices that support both operational and analytical needs.
- Define and enforce data standards, policies, and procedures to ensure data quality, consistency, and security.
- Architect data lakes, data warehouses, and lakehouse architectures on AWS and Databricks.
- Develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models that align with business requirements and data governance principles.
- Optimise data processing pipelines using Spark, Delta Lake, and other big data technologies.
- Ensure real-time and batch data processing solutions are optimised for performance and cost.
3. Technical Leadership & Best Practices
- Collaborate with engineering teams to establish coding standards, design patterns, and governance policies.
- Guide developers in implementing CI/CD pipelines for data workflows using tools like Git, Airflow, Terraform.
- Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in technical architecture, and incorporate relevant advancements into architectural designs.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of Arqiva's enterprise architecture, recommending improvements to enhance enterprise capabilities and performance.
4. Security, Compliance & Performance Optimisation
- Ensure technical solutions are designed with security, compliance, and governance requirements in mind, minimising risks and safeguarding technical assets.
- Design IAM roles, data encryption, and access control across AWS and Databricks.
- Optimise compute and storage costs, ensuring efficient resource allocation in the cloud.
5. Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
- Lead the implementation of technical architecture solutions, providing technical leadership and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Work with customers, business leaders, data scientists, analysts, and engineers to deliver data-driven solutions and act as an SME for the team.
- Collaborate with DevOps and Cloud teams to ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and failover strategies.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior architects and engineers.
- Own relationships with suppliers in this ecosystem and peers in the industry.
The Person
- Significant experience in solution architecture or a related field.
- Strong understanding of data modelling, ELT, integration patterns, processes, and data warehousing concepts.
- Comprehensive knowledge of architecture frameworks and best practices.
- Proven track record in designing and delivering architecture solutions for cloud-hosted enterprise data platforms.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with the ability to manage and facilitate technological change.
- Qualifications: A degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is advantageous.

- Virtualisation & Cloud Computing - Proficiency with virtualisation and cloud computing, including AWS, Azure, Google Cloud platforms.

- Data Modelling: Relational and dimensional modelling (Inmon, Kimball).

- Security & Governance: IAM, encryption, role-based access control (RBAC).
- CI/CD & DevOps: Git, Airflow, Docker.
