Job summary

Scrumconnect Consulting in Newcastle upon Tyne is seeking a Technical Architect to shape the architecture of shared components supporting app-native journeys and digital credentials for UK public sector projects.

You will guide engineering teams through governance, advise on DevOps tooling, and work across AWS, GCP and Azure to deliver scalable solutions in a multi-department environment, explaining trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

• Experience as Technical or Solution Architect on large-scale digital services.
• Hands-on with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP or Azure).
• Strong knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD and modern tooling.
• Experience producing HLDs and LLDs and architecture decision records.
• Ability to explain trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences.

Technical Architect

We are looking for a Technical Architect to shape the architecture of shared components that support app-based user journeys and digital credentials. You will guide engineering teams, take designs through technical governance, and work across several government departments and cloud platforms.

What you will do

Advise on the technical architecture of common components supporting app-native journeys and digital credentials.

Guide the team through technical design authority and governance forums.

Advise on DevOps tooling best practices and review their implementation with engineers.

Work across multiple tech stacks, including AWS, GCP and Azure.

Deliver at scale in a multi-department environment.

Produce architecture artefacts such as high-level designs, low-level designs and tech stack definitions.

Work within strategic and enterprise architecture constraints, engaging the wider architecture community when the team needs to move outside them.

What you will bring

Proven experience as a Technical or Solution Architect on large-scale digital services.

Hands-on knowledge of at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP or Azure), with exposure to the others.

Strong understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD and modern engineering tooling.

Experience producing HLDs, LLDs and architecture decision records.

Confidence in taking designs through governance boards and explaining trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences.

Experience working in a multi-team or multi-organisation environment.

Experience with mobile app architecture, digital identity or credential services.

UK public sector experience and familiarity with the GDS Service Standard and Technology Code of Practice.
