Job summary

NEC Software Solutions seeks an experienced technical application consultant to support over 100 customers across on-premise, private cloud and public cloud environments. You will install, upgrade and support the full application stack, including Oracle Database 19c, Apache Web Server, Tomcat and Open JDK.

The role is UK-based and can be remote or hybrid, with weekend overtime approximately once per month to facilitate production system upgrades.

Qualifications

• Expertise in Oracle DB 19c management including upgrades.
• Experience installing and maintaining software on Oracle Linux or Red Hat Linux.
• Direct interaction with customers via video conference and email.

Responsibilities

• Apply software updates to customer non-prod and prod systems.
• Upgrade Oracle DB, Apache Tomcat, Apache Web Server, and Jasper Reports Server.
• Install new software releases developed by NEC.
• Troubleshoot installation and upgrade issues.
• Perform scripted backup and restore tasks.
• Communicate professionally with customers and provide solutions.
• Collaborate with team to share workload and resolve problems.

Please note, role can be remote or hybrid, subject to location.This role requires weekend overtime approximately once per month to facilitate production system upgrades.

We are looking for an experienced technical application consultant to join our team supporting over 100 customers. This is an exciting opportunity working with a mix of on-premise, private cloud and public cloud-based systems. More than just a DBA, you will install, upgrade, and support the entire application stack utilising:

• Oracle Database 19c (and later 26ai)
• Apache Web Server (httpd)
• Apache Tomcat
• Open JDK
• NEC written applications that rely on the above technologies

You must be UK-based due to the security requirements of our customers.

Principal duties and responsibilities:

• Apply our software updates to customer non-production and production systems.
• Perform related software technology upgrades including Oracle Database, Apache Tomcat, Apache Web Server, and Jasper Reports Server.
• Perform installations of new software developed by our company.
• Troubleshoot issues relating to software installation and upgrades.
• Perform scripted backup and restore tasks.
• Communicate with our customers in a professional and solution-driven manner.
• Work as a team to troubleshoot problems and share workloads.

Qualifications

Essential skills/experience:

• Oracle Database 19c management including upgrades. single instance and container databases.
• Installing and maintaining software on Oracle Linux or Red Hat Linux.
• Working directly with customers via video conference and email communication.

Desirable skills/experience:

• Deployment of Apache Tomcat based web applications.
• Apache Web Server configuration and management.
• Installing and maintaining software on Microsoft Windows Server operating systems.
• Linux bash scripting.
• Performing Ansible scripted database and software backups and recovery.
• An understanding of network architecture such as private networks, DMZs, etc.
