Yolk Recruitment Ltd is recruiting a Technical Advisory Engineer to support a leading roofing, cladding, and building-envelope systems manufacturer in Cardiff. The role is hybrid after training and involves reviewing drawings, performing design calculations and providing practical, compliant technical solutions.

The successful candidate will review customer proposals, produce construction details in AutoCAD, advise on correct system applications and communicate clearly with architects,

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of roofing and cladding systems.
• Experience in cladding technical support or building envelope design.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings.
• Understanding of building physics including thermal performance and acoustics.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical contact for customers throughout design and installation.
• Produce and amend AutoCAD construction details supporting projects.
• Carry out design calculations: gutter design, fastener/panel-span checks, U-values, acoustics.
• Advise stakeholders on correct selection and installation of roofing/cladding systems.
• Review customer details to ensure solutions align with product recommendations and compliance.
• Identify when a design is not suitable and propose alternatives.
• Provide guidance on building physics, product application and thermal requirements.
• Support contractors with technical queries and provide drawings and guidance.
• Coordinate with architects, contractors, site teams,Sales and internal colleagues to resolve queries.

Technical Advisory Engineer - Roofing & Cladding

Cardiff - Hybrid after training
Salary: Up to £40,000 DOE + 10% Bonus + Excellent Benefits

Yolk Recruitment are supporting a leading manufacturer of roofing, cladding and building-envelope systems with the recruitment of an experienced Technical Advisory Engineer to join their Technical team.

Please note: knowledge of roofing and cladding system drawings is essential for this position.

This is a highly customer-facing technical role, supporting architects, cladding contractors, main contractors and internal Sales teams with technical advice across roofing, cladding and façade applications. You'll review customer drawings and construction details, complete design calculations, produce and amend technical drawings and recommend practical solutions to ensure proposed systems are suitable, compliant and correctly applied.

This is what you'll be doing

You’ll act as a key technical point of contact for customers throughout the design and installation process.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Reviewing architectural drawings, construction details and customer proposals, identifying potential technical or application issues and recommending appropriate solutions.
• Producing and amending AutoCAD construction details and product drawings to support customer projects.
• Carrying out and reviewing technical design calculations including gutter design, fastener and panel-span checks, acoustic performance, U-values and condensation-risk assessments.
• Advising architects, cladding contractors, main contractors and other stakeholders on the correct selection, application and installation of roofing and cladding systems.
• Reviewing customer construction details to ensure proposed solutions align with product recommendations and relevant compliance requirements.
• Identifying where a proposed design or detail may not be technically suitable and explaining why, before developing an alternative solution or amended detail for customer approval.
• Providing technical guidance around building physics, product application, thermal performance and acoustic requirements.
• Supporting contractors and site teams with technical queries during installation, providing drawings, details and product/application guidance where required.
• Liaising closely with architects, contractors, site teams, Sales and other internal technical colleagues to resolve project queries efficiently.
• Ensuring calculations, drawings and technical advice are accurate, consistent and delivered within agreed timescales.
• Maintaining accurate records of customer enquiries, technical advice and project correspondence using internal CRM systems.
• Identifying opportunities to improve technical processes, resources and the overall customer experience.

The experience you'll bring

• Strong knowledge and practical understanding of roofing and cladding systems is essential.
• Previous experience within cladding technical support, roofing and cladding contracting/ specification, building-envelope design/application or a closely related technical position.
• Ability to read, interpret and understand architectural and technical construction drawings.
• Experience using AutoCAD, with the ability to produce or amend technical drawings and construction details.
• An understanding of building physics and areas such as thermal performance, U-values, condensation risk, acoustics and relevant Building Regulations would be beneficial.
• Confident communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly to architects, contractors, site teams and internal stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple technical enquiries and project requirements simultaneously.
