Job Description: Technical Accountant

How does this role contribute to our collective success?

The role of Senior Technical Accountant within Axis Re is to ensure that regular Reinsurance reporting received from brokers/cedants is processed in a timely manner, cashflow relating to reinsurance contracts is processed in a timely manner and to ensure that information and reporting requests, both internal and external, are dealt with promptly and accurately to satisfy the needs of our stakeholders.

What will you do in this role?

  1. Analyse, review and maintain accurate treaty accounts for assigned complex accounts. This includes handling Contingent Commissions, Sliding Scale Commissions, Retrospective Rate Adjustments and Premium Adjustments and processing accounts, ensuring data captured is accurate and within agreed timeframes.
  2. Ensure payments for such accounts are made in a timely manner.
  3. Assist in the B2B and EDI processes and assist the team to achieve higher levels of automation.
  4. Manage complex treaties which include preparing accounts and analysing statistics.
  5. Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external clients and work with various departments as necessary to resolve queries.
  6. Liaise with the claims team to ensure large loss movements are communicated to upper management.
  7. On a bi-weekly basis prepare bank reconciliation between bank statements and recorded cash items.
  8. Liaise with outsourcing unit to maintain and control portfolio and to resolve queries.
  9. Assist Team Lead on the quarterly review of premium estimates and coordination of required adjustments.
  10. Assist in the quarterly review and analysis and follow up of cash calls and outstanding cash call credits.
  11. Assist Team Lead on reporting requests and ad hoc projects.

You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.

About You:

What you need to have:

  1. 3+ years of Reinsurance Accounting experience.
  2. Ability to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment.
  3. Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability and confidence to challenge existing procedures & use of system.

What we prefer you to have:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business related field.
  2. 5+ years with knowledge of reinsurance principles. Business line knowledge useful.
  3. Detail oriented and strong problem solver with analytical abilities, demonstrated positive attitude and works well within a team environment.
  4. Strong computer skills – knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook, SICS Reinsurance system, Business Objects, Microsoft Power BI.

Role Factors:

  1. Be in the office 3 days per week.
