Our client is one of the UK's largest and most successful Surface & Highways Companies. The Technical Manager will be based at their office near Derby. The role involves working on a range of asphalt and pavement design projects within the Highways, Retail, Rail, Aviation, Commercial, and Defence sectors. The Technical Manager will oversee district management and lead asphalt and pavement design initiatives.

Technical Manager Job Overview

• Overall management of the district
• Leading asphalt and pavement design
• Supporting Sales, Operations, and Contracting departments
• Training internal sales, QS, and operational staff
• Meeting customers and supporting initial contract negotiations with the commercial team
• Cost reduction and value engineering: reviewing specifications and advising on cost savings through material choices, usage, and specification alterations
• Acting as the first point of contact for material/laying issues and complaint investigations
• Conducting site audits of laying operations, including site testing
• Supporting sales and operational teams with onsite and pre-start issues
• Creating and monitoring Inspection & Test Plans
• Vetting specifications

Technical Manager Job Requirements

• Experience with asphalt technology
• Experience in pavement design and construction
• Full driving license
• Knowledge of testing methods for asphalt and cement-bound granular materials
• Familiarity with SHW, BS EN, ISO 17025, and other relevant standards
• Ability to lead in a customer-facing role
• Experience in dispute resolution
• Strong IT and report writing skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
