Role Purpose

To support accounting activities within the UK Finance team, ensuring that the accuracy, currency and consistency of underlying data in the entity trial balances appropriately facilitates the production of financial reporting/analyses, maintaining controls over the TB production, preparing reports on financial performance and ensuring that management and leadership teams are kept informed about financial performance/risks.

Key Result Areas

Strategy and Planning

  1. Contributes to, monitors and advises on the plan variances and implications in order to ensure relevancy, compliance and optimal delivery of business results.
  2. Assists in the preparation and implementation of the operational team plans to ensure these are in line with wider business strategy and reflect key priorities.
  3. Determines own work priorities and activities in line with agreed plans to ensure the achievement of the function’s objectives.

Policy Process and Procedures

  1. Supports the implementation of the Finance strategy to enable delivery of overall business targets.
  2. Adheres to Finance standards, policies, procedures, instructions and good practice to operate controls, minimise risk and maximise efficiency.

Environmental Awareness/ Customer Focus

  1. Establishes, strengthens and develops relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues to support their needs, maximise influence, and achieve business objectives.
  2. Responds to internal and external stakeholder requests in accordance with service standards.
  3. Demonstrates an understanding and awareness of market dynamics and market cycle to enhance business performance.

Technical Performance

  1. Manages accounting processes within timelines and to the required control standards.
  2. Operates processes in finance systems at an expert user level demonstrating an understanding of the system configuration to deliver the required outcomes.
  3. Ensures quality, accuracy and timeliness of reports/analyses.

Knowledge

  1. Knowledge of the market the company operates in and London Market Operations (Lloyd’s, IUA, LPSO, LPC etc).
  2. Strong understanding of Aspen’s business objectives and how own role/team contributes to these.
  3. Knowledge of Aspen HR Policies and Practices.
  4. Sound working knowledge of gross and ceded premium, claims, expenses, investments and FX processing and documentation.
  5. Good working knowledge of FCA, and other, regulations as they pertain to insurance intermediaries – particularly in relation to the handling of client money & money laundering.

Skills

  1. IT literate.
  2. Good written and verbal communications skills – is articulate and confident.
  3. Accuracy and attention to detail.
  4. Analytical.

Experience

  1. Relevant A levels and degree level education.
  2. Financial services experience, specifically within the insurance sector.
  3. Attainment of a relevant accounting qualification (such as AAT, ACCA, in the UK).
