Message from the Director

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of children, young people, and families? Do you want to be part of a transformative journey to improve Havering’s community? Join us in our mission to elevate our Children's Social Care Services within the Starting Well Department.

Following a recent inadequate Ofsted inspection, we are committed to an improvement journey to restore and enhance practice across all services. We seek dedicated social care practitioners eager to make a difference, advocate for children, and contribute to our improvement efforts.

We offer development opportunities through our Social Care Academy, systemic training, and dedicated learning days. We aim to create an environment where every child receives the best support and staff can thrive in safe, nurturing settings.

Our senior leaders have developed an improvement plan, and if you are ready to embrace this challenge, we encourage you to apply.

About The Role

As a Team Manager, you will empower and support social workers to achieve the best outcomes for children and families. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Managing and overseeing staff to ensure effective service delivery through high-quality social work practice, compliant with standards, legislation, and guidance.
  2. Leading and monitoring staff in accurate recording of information on relevant systems, ensuring the voice of the child is captured and evidences are maintained.
  3. Assisting the Service Manager and Head of Service in planning and developing services, identifying needs and challenges, and escalating issues as needed.
  4. Managing budgets effectively to ensure services are cost-efficient.
  5. Producing reports and representing the team in meetings and forums.

Ideally, you will have experience working within safeguarding and some leadership experience in social care.

If successful, you will:

  • Manage staff to deliver high-quality services in line with standards and legislation.
  • Ensure robust recording and evidence of practice, including capturing the voice of the child.
  • Support planning and service development, identifying challenges and escalating issues.
  • Manage budgets efficiently.
  • Contribute to reports and attend relevant meetings.

Additional Information

We promote a hybrid working model, combining office and flexible working arrangements. You will be expected to work from our town hall campus when required and participate in face-to-face team activities.

Havering is a green borough that values initiative, innovation, and progression. We offer numerous opportunities for development and encourage staff to seize them.

For an informal discussion, contact Lydia Bennet via email at Lydia.bennet@havering.gov.uk. The closing date for applications is 23:59 on 8th June 2025.
