Job summary

Reading Borough Council is seeking an experienced Team Manager to lead a children's social care team, ensuring high-quality support for children and families.

You will provide operational leadership, supervise social workers, manage complex cases, and develop staff while collaborating with partner agencies. The role requires a recognised Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England.

Qualifications

  • Qualified social worker with registration (SW England).
  • Significant post-qualification experience in statutory children's social care.
  • Previous management experience leading social work teams.
  • Strong knowledge of CIN/CP/LAC services.
  • Experience in quality assurance, performance management and service improvement.
  • Excellent risk management and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to chair complex meetings with partners.

About the role

About you

We're looking for a qualified social work leader who combines strong management skills with a child-centred approach.

You’ll have:

  • A recognised Social Work qualification
  • Current Social Work England registration
  • Significant post-qualification experience within statutory children's social care
  • Previous management experience leading social work teams
  • Strong knowledge of child in need, child protection and looked after children services
  • Experience of quality assurance, performance management and service improvement
  • Excellent risk management and decision-making skills
  • The ability to chair complex meetings and work effectively with partner agencies
  • A strong understanding of corporate parenting responsibilities
  • The confidence to lead through challenge, change and crisis situations
