How you'll make a difference

As a Team Manager in one of our care leavers teams, you will provide support, recognition, guidance, and professional oversight to a team of personal advisors (PAs).

We are looking for a talented and ambitious leader to join our strong management group within our wider Corporate Parenting Service to lead one of our care leaver teams.

We are pleased to say that we provide an Ofsted rated 'Good' service, and we are seeking additional driven professionals to help us maintain and build on this for the ongoing betterment of the children and young people of South Gloucestershire.

What you will be doing

You will be managing a team of six PAs who work as lead professionals with our care leavers (aged 18-25) as well as working alongside social workers in supporting effective transitions for our children in care (aged 16-18). Working with your PAs, you will deliver the best possible service to our care experienced young people as their corporate parent.

This will include:

  • Supporting them into appropriate accommodation
  • Promoting support and opportunities available via our local offer
  • Enabling them to access and maintain employment, education and training (EET) opportunities
  • Ensuring their ongoing wellbeing and taking appropriate safeguarding actions to ensure their safety

While you will have the usual targets to achieve, you will be doing so with a very supportive leadership team around you that are always accessible from the very top down.

If you can focus on the people behind the social worker title, we know you will achieve the best for our children and families.

  • As a supportive manager, you will be able to get the best from your team members whilst ensuring they are fully supported and know how valued they are.
  • You will lead and oversee a consistently good service to care experienced young people. It will be your responsibility to ensure specialist assessment and support is undertaken and delivered effectively, improving the outcomes and promoting a positive future for our children in care and care leavers.
  • It will be key for you to maintain a priority in promoting personal and professional development through the several available pathways and programmes offered by our Children's Services to your staff.

What we need from you

  • You will have a relevant professional qualification and experience in a relevant setting such as corporate parenting or social care, including experience of managing staff and supervision of other professionals.
  • You will be passionate about the role of the local authority as a Corporate Parent and promoting the best possible outcomes for care experienced young people.
  • An in-depth and comprehensive understanding of children in care, foster carers, and their families is essential for this role.
  • You will be able to evidence your ability to lead teams to achieve optimum performance in delivering excellent social care services for children.
  • You will have evidence of ongoing continuous professional development and a thorough knowledge of current legislation and practice relating to children and young people's services.

What you need to know

  • Due to the nature of this role, an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (child and adult) is required for this post.
  • You will be required to travel widely within the authority, so you must either have a current driving licence and provide a car or have access to appropriate means of travel.
  • Business Insurance will need to be added to your current car insurance policy.

Interviews will take place on Tuesday 29th April 2025.
