Job summary

Peterborough City Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Team Manager to lead a busy frontline Assessment Team. This role focuses on safeguarding, performance management, and timely interventions for children and families.

Based at Sand Martin House, Bittern Way, PE2 8TY, you will work 37 hours per week on a temporary contract. The role requires a minimum of 2 days in the office per week, with 5 days during duty weeks; DBS checks may apply.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in Children's Social Care, especially Assessment or Front Door services.
• Previous Team Manager or Assistant Team Manager experience.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and statutory social work requirements.
• Experience overseeing Section 47 investigations and Section 7 reports.
• Social Work England registration.

Responsibilities

• Lead a frontline Assessment Team to ensure high practice standards and service delivery.
• Oversee timeliness and quality of Children & Families assessments.
• Provide management oversight of Section 7 work for private law proceedings.
• Lead Section 47 safeguarding investigations and multi-agency strategy meetings.

About the Role

Peterborough City Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Team Manager to lead a busy frontline Assessment Team. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong leader with a proven track record in Children's Social Care, safeguarding, and performance management to oversee a dynamic service delivering timely, high-quality interventions for children and families.

Location: Sand Martin House, Bittern Way, PE2 8TY

Rate: £45 per hour (Umbrella rate)

Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract: Temporary

Office Requirements: Minimum of 2 days per week in the office, 5 days during duty weeks

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and support a frontline Assessment Team, ensuring high standards of practice and effective service delivery.
• Oversee all work relating to the timeliness and quality of Children & Families assessments completed within the service.
• Provide management oversight of Section 7 work relating to private law proceedings.
• Lead and oversee Section 47 enquiries, safeguarding investigations, and multi-agency strategy meetings.
• Manage and coordinate a 3-week duty system, ensuring effective allocation and management of incoming referrals and safeguarding concerns.
• Drive performance, quality assurance, and positive outcomes for children and families.

About You

• Extensive experience within Children's Social Care, ideally within Assessment or Front Door Services.
• Previous Team Manager or Assistant Team Manager experience.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, child protection processes, and statutory social work requirements.
• Experience overseeing Section 47 investigations and Section 7 reports.
• Excellent leadership, performance management, and decision-making skills.
• Social Work England registration.
