Job summary

South Gloucestershire Council is seeking an experienced Team Manager to lead one of two 0-18 Children with Disabilities teams within the 0-25 Disabilities Service. You will provide essential support, professional oversight, and safeguarding-focused leadership to a dedicated social care team.

The role requires social work registration, and a track record of managing staff, developing teams, and delivering excellent outcomes for children and families. Interviews on 8 Oct 2026.

Qualifications

  • Professional qualification in social work (MA/BA or DipSW) with current Social Work England registration.
  • Extensive knowledge in relevant settings such as corporate parenting or social care.
  • Experience in managing staff and supervising other professionals.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate teams to meet changing service demands.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and current legislation/practice for children and young people.

Responsibilities

  • Support social workers to build relationships, undertake assessments, develop plans and deliver evidence-based interventions for children in need of support, protection and care.
  • Combine hybrid remote and office-based management with essential face-to-face guidance to meet service objectives.
  • Promote development pathways and CPD for team members within Children’s Services.
  • Provide supervision and strategic direction with support from senior leadership.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, strong, and committed leader to join our management group within our 0-25 Disabilities Service, leading one of two 0-18 Children with Disabilities teams.

What you will be doing

While you will have the usual targets to achieve, you will be doing so with a very supportive leadership team around you that are always accessible from the very top down.

If you can focus on the people behind the social worker title - we know you will achieve the best for our children and families.

  • It will be your responsibility to support our social workers to build relationships, undertake assessments, develop plans and deliver purposeful evidence-based interventions to secure the best outcomes for children in need of support, protection and care.
  • Being an adaptive and responsive manager, you will combine a hybrid model of remote and office-based working with face-to-face management (where essential and secure) to meet team and wider service objectives.
  • Maintaining a focus on the individuals in your team, you will promote personal and professional development through the pathways and programmes offered by our Children's Services.
  • You will have the support, guidance and supervision of an experienced and accessible Senior Leadership team.
What we need from you
  • We require you to hold a professional qualification eg. MA or BA in social work, DipSW and have a current registration with Social Work England.
  • You need to have an extensive knowledge in a relevant setting such as corporate parenting or social care. This must include experience of managing staff and supervision of other professionals.
  • You must have experience of developing and motivating a team to fulfil the changing demands of the service.
  • Given the elements of the role, you will be able to evidence your ability to lead teams to achieve optimum performance in delivering excellent social care services for children.
  • You will have evidence of on-going continuous professional development and a thorough knowledge of current legislation and practice relating to children and young people's services.
What you need to know
  • Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (child and adult) is obtained for this post.
  • You will be required to travel widely within the authority so you must either have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel.
  • Business Insurance will need to be added to your current car insurance policy.

Interviews are anticipated to take place on 8th October 2026.
