Job summary

SF Partners is seeking a Probate Team Manager in Derbyshire with hybrid working available. The role offers a salary between £40,000 and £50,000 per year, on a permanent, full-time basis. You will lead a high-performing Probate team, supervise professionals, and keep a hands-on probate caseload to maintain technical excellence.

You will drive performance, coach staff, ensure SRA compliance, and work to deliver first-class client service and operational efficiency within the department.

Qualifications

• Significant experience within Wills, Probate and Private Client law.
• Previous experience supervising or managing legal professionals.
• Excellent coaching, mentoring and leadership skills.
• Strong technical knowledge of probate law and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop a team of Probate Legal Advisors and drive KPIs and service standards.
• Retain a small personal caseload to keep technical knowledge current.
• Ensure compliance with SRA regulations and internal policies.
• Monitor case progression and perform quality assurance checks.
• Support recruitment, onboarding and development of new team members.
• Produce management reports and performance data; identify efficiency improvements.

Our client is a well‑established and growing law firm specialising in Private Client services, including Wills, Probate and Estate Planning. They are seeking an experienced Probate Team Manager to lead a high‑performing team of legal professionals, ensuring exceptional client service, technical excellence and strong commercial performance.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified legal professional who enjoys mentoring others while remaining hands‑on with technical probate work.

The Role

As Probate Team Manager, you'll oversee the performance, development and technical supervision of a team of Probate Legal Advisors, ensuring matters progress efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of legal compliance and client care.

Alongside leading your team, you'll retain a small personal caseload to ensure your technical knowledge remains current and continue to support the delivery of high‑quality probate services.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

• Lead, motivate and develop a team of Probate Legal Advisors.
• Drive individual and team performance against agreed KPIs and service standards.
• Deliver regular coaching, mentoring and performance reviews.
• Identify training needs and support ongoing professional development.
• Conduct regular case reviews and quality assurance checks.
• Assist with recruitment, onboarding and development of new team members.
• Work collaboratively with other department managers to ensure operational success.

Legal & Compliance

• Provide technical supervision and guidance to your team.
• Manage a small personal caseload of probate matters.
• Ensure compliance with SRA regulations and internal policies.
• Monitor legal quality, risk management and file progression.
• Keep up to date with changes in probate legislation and best practice.
• Support continuous improvement across legal processes and procedures.

Client Service

• Ensure clients receive a professional, compassionate and efficient service throughout the probate process.
• Support the resolution of complex client queries and complaints.
• Work with internal teams to manage workloads and client expectations.
• Promote a culture focused on outstanding client care and service excellence.

Performance & Operations

• Monitor team workloads, work in progress and case progression.
• Drive productivity, billing performance and departmental KPIs.
• Produce accurate management reports and performance data.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and service delivery.
• Support the firm's continued growth through effective people management and operational excellence.
