A healthcare trust is looking for a motivated Theatre Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner to help develop a new theatre unit. This role requires providing clinical leadership, managing resources, and ensuring high standards of patient care. The position is for 37.5 hours per week, mainly Monday to Friday, with responsibilities including budget management and team development. Are you a motivated, forward-thinking Theatre Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP)? We have an exciting opportunity to develop a new theatre unit at Wrightington Hospital.
The trust has recently been awarded the Orthopaedic Hub accreditation, establishing it as a centre of excellence for orthopaedic surgery.
The post is for 37.5 hours per week, primarily a four-day week, mainly Monday to Friday, with bank holiday leave.
Evidence of qualifications will be required at interview and during compliance checks.
In support of the matron/theatre manager, the team leader is responsible on a continuous basis for their designated area within the theatre department.
Provide professional clinical leadership, guidance, expert advice, and managerial skills to ensure the delivery of a clinically effective service in line with local and national development plans, Trust policies, and procedures, including Infection Control.
Undertake management responsibilities for staff within the theatre department team, including IPR, duty rotas, recruitment, selection, and supervision of students and learners.
Manage the specialist theatre budget and supplies to ensure maximum efficiency of the financial allocation.
Develop the team to meet the evolving needs of the service, ensuring efficient use of resources. Conduct formal and informal teaching, cascading knowledge and skills.
Act as an ambassador for the department and the trust in professional and public settings.
Participate in, and influence, care delivery by leading the team in providing evidence-based, patient-centered care. Review and update theatre care plans and documentation.
Coordinate theatre activity to ensure smooth operational running of the theatre.
Ensure adequate staffing levels and appropriate skill mix to meet the needs of the unit.
Maintain high standards of patient care.
Facilitate regular staff meetings to encourage idea exchange and implementation.
Recognize and respond appropriately to situations requiring immediate action.
Deputize for the matron and participate in the senior nurse rota.
Ensure performance standards are met according to objectives.
Manage resources and funding effectively.
Lead the theatre team in managing the environment to meet risk management and health & safety objectives.
Manage workload autonomously.
Establish effective communication with all disciplines, patients, and relatives, including delivering sensitive information and assessing crisis situations.
Support colleagues in developing communication skills, especially in difficult situations.
Conduct return-to-work interviews as per the Trust’s Attendance Management Policy.
Provide professional knowledge to the multidisciplinary team, patients, and relatives, applying theory in practice.
Participate in managing complaints and patient concerns, leading patient and public involvement to improve services.
Promote high standards of record keeping in line with professional, legal, and organizational guidelines, emphasizing confidentiality.
Ensure the theatre coordinator has current and up-to-date information.
